This expansion is being fueled by a substantial investment at Coveris' specialized extrusion site in Winsford, Cheshire, which boasts the UK's largest blown extrusion facility for polyethylene (PE) films. Leveraging its market-leading co-extrusion capabilities and expertise in producing nine-layer EVOH barrier film for meat, fish, and dairy sectors, Coveris Winsford is now manufacturing vacuum skin packaging. Vacuum skin packaging is distinguished by its skin-like appearance around products, offering a high-quality aesthetic that resonates well with consumers. Retailers stand to benefit from up to 25 additional days of shelf-life and enhanced product security, thanks to the superior performance properties of VSP films compared to traditional packaging formats. Coveris' VSP films are compatible with PE, PET, PP, aluminum, and cartonboard, validated on major standard skin packing lines. Coveris Winsford, a hub for innovation, houses a Film Science Lab and technologists dedicated to advancing, optimizing, and validating its award-winning films. An ongoing innovation project aims to reduce the gauge of Coveris VSP films below the industry average, maximizing benefits with minimal environmental impact. According to Statista, more than 75% of U.S. consumers “placed some level of importance on #sustainably #packaged #cosmetic products in 2023,” with the largest cohort stating that sustainable cosmetic packaging was at least somewhat important in their skin care and makeup selection process.
