The Energy Council's Senior Manager for Research, Technology and Innovation Dr Bonani Seteni was at the Manufacturing Indaba in Sandton last week where he participated in a panel entitled "Green Economies - Energy security, energy cost and environmental attributes of energy" His key takeaways from the gathering included that we should celebrate achievements to reflect the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance its energy infrastructure and transition towards more sustainable energy sources. Some notable achievements in recent years include: ⬇ Reduction in power outages ☀ Renewable energy expansion 💡 Improved energy access 📈 Economic impact 🛑 Crime reduction in energy sector. He however noted that improving energy planning capability (data availability and modelling) is still critically necessary for: 📑 Impacting policy and regulation for market predictability 🤝 Promoting Public-Private Partnerships 🏭 Utilizing market predictability by developing industrial capacity and local expertise (EPC and other technical skills) as demonstrated by the 1974 CSIR battery team's response to the 1973 oil crisis.
