According to the latest #UNTourism Barometer, the Middle East led global tourism growth in January-July 2024, with arrivals soaring 26% above 2019 levels. Impressively, 4 Arab countries ranked among the top-performing large destinations (5 million+ overnight visitors) during this period: Saudi Arabia recorded a remarkable +73% increase over 2019, followed by Morocco at +32%, Egypt at +18%, and Tunisia at +6%. These results underscore the resilience and transformation of tourism across the Arab region.

Dubai’s tourism sector continues its record-breaking trajectory with international arrivals expected to surpass the 20-million mark in 2024, firmly establishing the emirate among the world’s top destinations for visitor arrivals. According to data published by Oxford Economics in its Middle East & Africa Inbound Tourism Outlook report, the forecasted increase will eclipse the city’s exceptional performance in 2023, which recorded 17.15 million visitor arrivals. After my recent visit to Oman, I became excited to explore their most promising sector and share the insights I’ve gained. The tourism industry is booming, serving as a key driver in Oman’s Vision 2040 plan for economic diversification and growth. 🌍 Oman welcomed 3.99 million international visitors in 2023, surpassing pre-Covid levels and accounting for 6.5% of all international tourist arrivals to the GCC. 🏨 The number of hotels grew to 813, with 32,821 rooms available for tourists, a 207% increase from 2019. 💼 The tourism sector contributed 2.4% to Oman’s GDP in 2023, with tourist expenditures rising by 22.6%.
