District 3's High Tech stream lead, Jean-David Begin, recently held a 2-hour workshop on seed financing fundamentals for startups. This session addressed a major concern for new founders: securing funding. Understanding seed financing can be a significant hurdle, and the fundraising journey itself can be a source of stress and mental wellbeing challenges for startup founders. The workshop covered various funding rounds (pre-seed, seed, Series A, B, and C+), venture capital/angel investors, and corporate/strategic investors. Key financial terms like SAFEs, convertible notes, and preferred shares were also clarified. This informative session equipped startups with the knowledge they need to navigate their fundraising journey. StartUp Pitches - Challenges from an Investor perspective I coach/mentor start-ups and also listen to multiple pitches every week as part of an Investment Council and as an Angel Investor. Do you see similar challenges. Also would love to hear founders perspectives too. Many founders seem to have some broad patterns of challenges while pitching 1.     Unstructured and incoherent 2.     Lots of slides – Small font and difficult to read 3.     Silly TAM, SAM and SOM numbers 4.     No analysis of competition 5.     Not clear about Moat – why are they different and what gives them protection in future 6.     No connecting Story/Narrative 7.     Too much detail and run out of time 8.     Unclear business model 9.     Poor forecasts - Not much rigor on numbers 10.  Not clear in terms of funds raise, Utilisation #startups #startup #startupfounders #angelinvestors #startupfunding #startuppitches #pitchdeck
