Balancing Long-Term Savings with Short-Term Budget Goals How do you create a transportation strategy that delivers both long-term savings and immediate budget cycle savings? I didn’t fully grasp this balance until I faced a hard lesson (I should go back and thank the person). Leadership asked me to review our fuel program and consider partnering with a third-party provider. Confident in my approach, I proposed a multi-year strategy that would save more money over time. I was shut down—quickly. What I failed to consider was the need to show savings in the upcoming year's budget cycle. While my plan did save more over time, it didn’t meet the short-term goal. The key lesson: Know your customer and ensure you’re addressing their immediate needs as well as long-term objectives. It was a good plan, it is still saved on my hard drive. Just not the right plan for that moment. Comment below with your own thoughts. #transportation #procurement #transportationstrategy #supplychain

Profitability ratios are crucial in evaluating a company's operational efficiency and profitability. Among the three ratios, the gross profit margin is the most significant. It denotes adept management of production costs vis-a-vis revenue. Conversely, a diminished gross profit margin signals elevated production costs relative to revenue. Investors and analysts utilize the gross profit margin for industry comparisons and longitudinal performance tracking. A robust gross profit margin is indispensable for ensuring a company's enduring viability and profitability. It excludes other expenses, making it an effective measure of a company's production efficiency. Remember, a heightened gross profit margin is a positive indicator of a company's management of production costs. So, it's critical to keep an eye on this ratio to ensure a company's long-term success. **Formula Gross Profit Margin = ((Revenue - Cost of Goods Sold) / Revenue) * 100 #Profitability #ratios #FinancialAnalysis #FinancialReporting

Floating vs. Fixed rate contracts, why? Shippers often use a combination of both to balance risk and opportunity. Fixed rate contracts offer stability and predictability in pricing, ideal for budgeting and risk-averse shippers. Floating rate contracts allow flexibility to take advantage of market fluctuations, potentially leading to cost savings when rates are low.
