Want to be noticed in the job market? Want to stand out from the crowd? Then you need to display attitude and aptitude in your approach to gaining industry experience and knowledge, especially if you’re at the cadet stage. Aim to take on a proactive attitude during education and search out opportunities for work placement and internships within organisations that are relevant to your degree. Familiarise yourself with your university job board which post regular work experience opportunities for students. Reach out to industry personnel via LinkedIn or simply pick up the phone and start making calls to organisations in your field of study to see what hands-on experience they can offer you. But practical experience alone is not enough; you also need to embody a high level of theoretical knowledge. Anyone can go to university and obtain a degree. But it takes a good attitude and aptitude to really apply yourself to your studies and nail it. A set of strong grades could be the defining factor between you landing the job over someone else. Why? Because not only does it show potential employers you have a strong theoretical knowledge of the industry it also shows you have an aptitude for working hard which has allowed you to achieve those grades. It’s important for cadets to remember that companies will be evaluating you on who you are as a person, not just on the basis that you went to university and obtained a degree. Demonstrating a strong attitude and aptitude whilst studying will open doors for you as you transition into the industry. #ConstructionPeople #constructionindustry #constructionjobs

🌟 Valuable Insight from the Principal Officer on My First Day of Internship! 🚀 Today marked the beginning of my internship at the Mercantile Marine Office, and I had an insightful conversation with Principal Officer Capt. Sabbir Mahmood. Upon submitting my joining letter, he asked me a simple yet profound question: "What is the purpose of your internship?" I candidly responded, "I lack practical experience despite completing a four-year BBA program. I want to gain hands-on experience through this internship." Capt. Mahmood was surprised to hear that my university did not provide any practical training during the entire BBA program. He asked, "They just completed the coursework?" I confirmed, "Yes, I completed 40 courses without any practical exposure." This led me to ponder why our education system is designed this way. Capt. Mahmood suggested a transformative idea: universities should integrate at least two months of practical knowledge, fieldwork, or collaboration with organizations every semester. This approach, especially for private universities that collect tuition fees, would significantly benefit students, our country, and firms alike. Students would graduate with practical experience, ready to enter the workforce without being considered freshers. Organizations could reduce hiring costs by onboarding graduates who are already trained and experienced, thus reducing unemployment and creating a skilled workforce. I believe this is a fantastic idea and a step forward for our education system. Practical experience is crucial in creating competent and job-ready graduates. #Internship #EducationReform #PracticalExperience #CareerDevelopment #SkilledWorkforce #BBA #FutureReady #MercantileMarineOffice

😀 The city of Leeds has pledged to significantly increase the number of supported internships by 2025. ⭐ Supported internships and traineeships are work-based study programmes that aim to support young people into employment. Supported internships are specifically for young people with an EHC plan, and as such, they are expected to require a different level of support compared to a trainee or apprentice. They will have a job coach to support them in their workplace learning. 🌟 The benefits are numerous, to both the employer and employee. Internships allow businesses to practice inclusive employment opportunities, save on recruitment costs and improve recruitment prospects. 👉 To find out more about supported internships and the benefits they can bring to your company, watch the video below or email esemployers@leeds.gov.uk https://lnkd.in/gzT7-a3G #supportedinternship #inclusiverecruitment #recruitment #leeds

Interesting report done by CIEE Council on International Educational Exchange and Institute of International Education regarding Global Internships! 😎 😍 Among the key findings of the research is that "three in four alumni confirmed that participating in an internship abroad was helpful in acquiring their first full-time job". Furthemore,"global internships attract a more diverse pool of students than the traditional study-abroad population, with nearly half of all global internship survey respondents identifying as students of color, in comparison to 34 percent of study abroad students, as reported by Open Doors. Sixty-four percent of global interns identified with one or more underrepresented backgrounds (e.g., first-generation college students) and a greater percentage of male and nonbinary students participated in study abroad programming that included an internship component than in traditional study abroad programs".

The Struggle of Finding an Internship: Is This Really Necessary?” Recently, while helping a friend look for an internship (a mandatory college requirement), I came across this surprising list of documents requested by a recruiter. Here’s what they asked for: 1. Photo 2. Application Letter for Internship 3. CV/Resume 4. Academic Documents (Marksheet and Character Certificate of SLC and Plus 2 levels) 5. Citizenship Certificate (copy) 6. College Recommendation Letter 7. PAN Card (copy) 8. Police Report 9. Medical Report (Fit for Work Certificate) It’s shocking how extensive the documentation is—almost like applying for a full-time managerial role! While I understand the need for some of these, asking for things like a police report and a medical fitness certificate for an internship feels over the top. This raises some questions: • Are we overcomplicating the process for internships? • Shouldn’t internships focus more on learning and growth rather than rigorous formalities? • Are students unintentionally discouraged by such processes? Internships are supposed to foster education and exposure, not create unnecessary stress with administrative hurdles. I’d love to hear your thoughts—do you think this much documentation is justified for an internship, especially in a bank or similar sectors? #InternshipStruggles #EducationMatters #ProcessOverload #Storysharing #PersonalBranding
