Most industry compbio jobs now are hybrid, anywhere from 1-4 days on site a week. But how often do/should you show up in the office? What is the happy medium for hybrid work for computational biologists? I find that pinning down an exact number of days to be on site is impossible (and often controversial). Instead, there are opportunities that I would prioritize being on site for: - Meetings for which I am presenting and for which many attendees will be on site. - Meetings with a bench scientist to discuss how best to analyze data they generated. So much of this gets lost in emails that it's better to just talk to the person directly in real time. - Lunch with my teammates. On certain days of the week most of them are on site. - The opportunity to have the entire office to myself for focused work. What other opportunities would prompt you, my fellow computational biologists, to be on site? #computationalbiology #compbio #bioinformatics #biotech #pharma #hybridwork

Beyond the lab coat and Petri dishes ;effective communication, keen attention to detail, and analytical thinking are crucial skills to become a successful scientist. During our recent practical on serial dilution, I was able to apply these skills to ensure accurate and reliable results. I carefully followed aseptic techniques to prevent contamination, precisely measured and transferred volumes, and carefully observed the growth patterns on the agar plates. By effectively communicating with my group members and analyzing the data, I was able to draw meaningful conclusions from the experiment. I'm eager to further develop these skills and apply them to real-world challenges. I'm open to opportunities in a microbiology laboratory, where I can contribute to research projects, learn from experienced scientists, and gain hands-on experience. Let's connect!
