When Contact slips an all-hands meeting in the calendar at late notice you know its going to be big news. As the caffeine started working its magic we heard that the go button has been pressed on construction of Te Mihi Stage 2, the new geothermal binary plant of 101MW which will come online in 2027 ⚡ It's all go, as next week as we officially open our new geothermal power station at Tauhara which at full capacity will operate at 174MW. A renewable energy project that will provide secure, baseload, reliable power to Kiwi homes and businesses, and an important long-term asset for NZ. But wait there more..... soon after, Te Huka 3, one of the world’s largest single unit binary geothermal power stations, is expected to come online for its 30-day reliability run. Both new geothermal power stations will produce clean, low carbon renewable electricity and operate around the clock, unaffected by weather or fossil fuel supply. Together Tauhara and Te Huka 3 will generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of 260,000 New Zealand homes. Geothermal energy is an important renewable energy source and provides invaluable baseload generation. Let's get after it 🌏 🌟
It was great to host our shareholders both in person and online today for our Annual Shareholder Meeting in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
At the event today, we announced the first steps redevelop the Wairakei geothermal power station at Taupō with a new 101MW geothermal power station called Te Mihi Stage 2. A significant milestone for us as we deliver on our commitment to long-term, sustainable generation on the Wairakei steamfield - an important part of Contact’s renewable energy strategy.
Thank you for the ongoing support and interest from our shareholders. Find out more about the outcomes of the meeting here: https://lnkd.in/gaV8hVWf
