: 🤖 WILL AI REPLACE HUMANS? 🤔 💀💬 Introducing Devin AI, the world’s ‘first fully autonomous’ AI software engineer 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Meet Devin, your tireless, skilled teammate, ready to collaborate or work independently, freeing engineers to tackle more complex challenges and aspire to ambitious goals. What can Devin do? Cognition has equipped the AI-powered Devin with a shell, a code editor, and a separate web browser. Devin boasts advanced software development capabilities including coding, debugging, and problem-solving, all powered by machine learning algorithms. In simpler terms, Devin can build and deploy apps end-to-end and refine its own AI models. What challenges and opportunities does Devin bring? While Devin's capabilities are impressive, some experts express concerns about its ability to handle complex requirements reliant on human intuition and creativity. There's also discussion about the potential impact on job roles. However, many see Devin as a valuable ally for software engineers, opening doors to new collaborative possibilities between human ingenuity and AI. Cognition , led by Scott Wu, describes itself as an applied AI lab focused on reasoning. The company aims to surpass existing AI tools with its AI teammates. “Building Devin is just the first step—our hardest challenges still lie ahead,” reads the website. While Devin will soon be available for hire, companies currently need to join a waitlist. What are your thoughts on the future of AI in software engineering? "Learn how to code, it will guarantee you a job" While this adage felt like a guiding mantra of the 2010s, it does seem to have reached the end of its truth. Yesterday, the company Cognition released Devin, their own AI software engineer. The demos are really interesting and show a seemingly very powerful tool that is being rolled out. Have a look at the video below. Will that mean that programmers will be out of a job tomorrow? Not quite. Karpathy compared AI software development with AI driving and I tend to agree. AI will start taking over more and more of individual actions, then parts of the planning, then part of the structure, and so on, always redirecting the role of the user to more abstract and more supervision sort of roles. This will likely hold for the next few years to come, AI will supercharge those that already know how to use the tools. We at Daksha, for once, are very excited to include Devin into our own software development once it is being opened up to the public! https://lnkd.in/gqkK_NUW

Truckload of posts on how Junior Dev will now be wiped out! I believe AI like #Devin will be a boon, not a threat, to software engineers. Here's why: - AI can automate routine coding tasks, freeing up engineers to focus on higher-level design and problem-solving. This makes engineers more productive and valuable. - Learning to leverage AI tools will become a critical skill for developers. The engineers who master this will see their careers accelerate. - There will still be plenty of work defining requirements, architecting systems, and managing projects - things AI can't do. We'll need skilled engineers more than ever. - AI code will need human oversight. Engineers will play a key role in prompt engineering, reviewing AI-generated code for bugs/edge cases, and iterating with the AI. In short, I believe AI will be a powerful tool in every developer's toolkit, not a replacement. Those who learn to wield it effectively will thrive. Just like previous innovations, it will change how we work - for the better. Embrace the future! O yea Devin demo looks pretty cool. Go check that out! -> https://lnkd.in/gVgstcjE #ai #ml #aimusings

This week, the startup Cognition introduced Devin, who they call “the first AI software engineer.” Devin is an autonomous agent that solves engineering tasks through the use of its own shell, code editor, and web browser. Devin is remarkable. He has successfully passed engineering interviews from leading AI companies, and he’s already completed real jobs on Upwork. When evaluated on the SWE-Bench benchmark, Devin outperforms previous state-of-the-art model performance. For today’s college kids, who will enter the working world in the next few years, working with AI “co-workers” will become second nature. This embodies the biggest wave in productivity: augmentation. The best tools will augment what humans can do. #futureofwork #cobots #humanplusmachines, #augmentation #getfuturefit https://lnkd.in/g-5tSBbm
