Spanish our language is the 2nd most spoken language in the world. 3. A very supportive country in terms of economic donations, food... among the 10 most supportive countries in the world. 4. World leaders in transplants, our sample of collaboration and empathy in its purest form, just look at the figures. 5. A World Heritage country. 6. Tourism, Spain is the 2nd most visited country in the world, if so many people come here it is for a reason, isn't it? 7. We are the top 3 Unesco heritage country, one of the top 10 safest countries and with the most effective police force in Europe. 8. Our gastronomy, very varied and the best according to Bloomberg we are the healthiest country in terms of food. 9. In sports Rafa Nadal, Pau Gasol, Javier Gomez Noya and many others. 10. Spain has the largest number of protected natural areas in Europe. Every October 12, Spain celebrates the National Holiday commemorating the Discovery of America in 1492. October 12 symbolizes the historical event in which Spain, about to conclude a process of state building from our cultural and political plurality, and the integration of the kingdoms of Spain in the same monarchy, begins a period of linguistic and cultural projection beyond European borders. The feast of October 12 is celebrated in several places in South America and the United States, although it is not a national holiday in all countries. In addition, this day is called by different names: Día de la Hispanidad, Día de la Raza, Día de los Pueblos Indígenas, Día del Descubrimiento de los dos Mundos, Día de la Resistencia Indígena. "I got to visit neighbourhoods outside of the central city district where the majority of the people of African descent live. I learnt about the history of these neighbourhoods, their ongoign transformation and how they speak to enduring shared history and heritage between African and Portugal. We went to see the ‘Monument to the African Worker’ that commemorates the contribution of African workers to rebuilding Portugal. This tour-interview conversation added another dimension to the fieldwork experience thus far. ... One of the things that stood out to me in relation to the tour-interview was the discussion around the “discoveries” which Djuzé prefers to call the “arrival”. What happens when we think of the period of Portuguese exploration as the “arrival”? I think it could potentially open up both conceptual and empirical thinking space in reimagining past, present and future entangled heritage. The arrival can then signal the beginning of the end – end of failing to account for the African presence, the end of continued imperialist attitudes and actions, the end of oppression of all forms, the end of war and aggression….and the beginning of love, oneness and a shared sense of our common entwined humanity and unfolding human history. I was delighted to receive a letter from Stefano DOMINIONI last week informing me of the decision of the Board of Directors of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) to renew the European Cultural Route Certificate for the European Route of Historic Gardens . This is a great honour and distinction for me personally and for our organisation established in 2016. We are the only certified garden heritage cultural route in Europe. The cultural routes of the Council of Europe are not, as some people believe, 'tourist organisations'. Allthough for centuries, tourism or mobility in its broadest sense has been a powerful tool and key to explore our surrounding and, as a result, to understand it better. We are ambassadors of the universal values underlying European civilisation and culture having the unique privilege of bearing the official Council of Europe / European Institute of Cultural Routes, Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Programme label. The certification as a “Cultural Route of the Council of Europe” is a guarantee of excellence. Within the framework of the Cultural Route we implement innovative activities and projects pertaining to five main priority fields of action: 1) co-operation in research and development; 2) enhancement of memory, history and European heritage; 3) cultural and educational exchanges for young Europeans; 4) contemporary cultural and artistic practice; 5) cultural tourism and sustainable cultural development.
