Amvrakikos Gulf is one of the last two remaining sites in Greece with surviving populations of the critically endangered Fan Mussel (Pinna nobilis), and one of the few remaining and most important in the world. Despite its vital importance, this population faces numerous severe anthropogenic pressures, that directly threaten its very existence. #Pinnanobilis #AmvrakikosGulf #Amvrakikos https://lnkd.in/ddmKMq-Q

An interesting tripartite approach to protecting rainforests; 1. Training of local indigenous communities in using technology and gadgets to monitor and protect their forest such as computers, GPS devices, GPS trackers 2. Set up projects such as cocoa and fish farming which not only helps people's livelihoods but also empowers them via earning revenues and opening doors for business opportunities 3. Provide unconditional cash to members of indigenous communities so they can buy what's most essential to them and the needs of their families. I reckon this is overall an interesting approach for protecting rainforests. Great to hear that Cool Earth has a program in Milne Bay Province here in PNG as well.
By supporting Indigenous peoples in the Peruvian Amazon, Congo Basin and New Guinea Forest, we help protect the world’s largest rainforests. 🌎 🌿
