Today the group has a turnover of INR 2100 crores and is present across the country. >>From small beginnings in the timber sector, supplying wood to the matchstick industry, Mammed Koya and two friends ventured into footwear. Even during the early stages, he was focused one technical excellence, and sought to educate his sons in technical subjects. One of them, Noushad after completing his B Tech from Thrissur Engg College, did MTech in Polymer Technology. He then underwent training at the Rubber Research Institute of India, and also trained at Batanagar, West Bengal. This stress on technical excellence is one of the reasons behind their business success, and is a common feature of all modern manufacturing success stories in Kerala. >>As their operations expanded into other regional markets, their strategy was to base manufacturing nearer the markets, and started manufacturing units in Coimbatore, and Karnataka. The group now operates as two divisions, one headed by Noushad and the other by Razack. The strategy is based on being responsive to local market preferences, and that is why they have been adding manufacturing facilities as they extend into newer regions. Manufacturing capacity is today more than half a million pairs per day, making them one of the largest players in the footwear market in India. >>Noushad says that they have to remain technically up-to-date, in order to remain at the top of the market. That is the spirit of the new manufacturing leaders emerging from Kerala, who are technologically advanced, commercially savvy, and have a can-do spirit that ensures that they will not stop till they reach their goal. Attention NALP community - mark your calendars for January 17! I'm a part of the sub-committee who has been working on putting together the panel on DEI and language. As a language aficionado, this topic is near and dear to my heart, and to be honest, I have a lot to learn. Our panelists are going to tackle questions like: What language is appropriate and effective? What language is counterproductive? Is there universal language that is acceptable to all within a community? Who is deciding? Who should decide? These are some big questions and I can't wait to hear what Lorin MacDonald, CM, OOnt, LSM, JD Khadija Glover (she/her/elle) and Kuan Su have to share.

IMO - New Balance continues to raise the bar in terms of developing strategic, well-produced content in support of both their product and athlete partners / ambassadors. They did the same in signing Cooper Flagg a few months ago, female basketball star Cameron Brink, and last year when aligning a footwear silhouette made in the UK to Italian culture and well-known chef Massimo Bottura (see here: https://lnkd.in/egJbWjZa). In a world of vertical, organic video, they stand out by going against the grain and investing in quality storytelling as much as production. Plus, I’ve always appreciated Chris Davis’s perspective of a 50-30-20 approach to marketing the brand. 50% of allocated budget towards proven tactics, 30% towards more risk-based initiatives, and 20% towards bigger swings that have a higher probability to fail. Most brands would solely err towards the 50.
