Dear community, I am thrilled to announce the publication of my latest research paper titled "Earth Continuity Conductor Location in Single-Circuit Underground Transmission Line Using the Generalized Model", now available in the prestigious journal Electric Power Systems Research (EPSR). I am grateful for the support and collaboration of the co-authors Jaimis Leon from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), Filipe Faria da Silva from Aalborg University and José Pissolato Filho from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Their invaluable contributions and collaboration were instrumental in bringing this work to fruition. This paper examines the impact of earth continuity conductor (ECC) placement in duct banks for triangular and flat configurations of three-phase single-core underground cables using single-point bonding. Our findings show that for triangular formations, placing the ECC in the middle of the wires minimizes induced current and voltage on the sheath, eliminating the need for ECC transposition, which contrasts with IEEE 575 guidelines. For flat formations, ECC transposition is crucial to minimize circulating current. We recommend placing the ECC at the top of the duct at a specific distance, differing from IEEE 575 and CIGRE 531 guidelines. More information about it is in the next link.

Here’s a sneak peek at the abstract: The Observational Method plays a vital role in subsurface engineering, but current contract methods don’t fully capitalize on its potential. The paper explores the benefits of performance-based design, drawing on 50 years of case histories to showcase how these methodologies can enhance safety, manage risks, and drive economic benefits. It also addresses the risks associated with specification-driven design parameters and proposes tendering approaches to better integrate performance-based design into contracts while protecting both owners and contractors. 📜 Another significant paper presented during the #CIBW062 symposium hold last August by Aliaxis comes from Michael Gormley of Heriot-Watt University, focusing on the development of a test methodology for verifying system design at the commissioning stage of tall building drainage systems.   Current codes and standards make some reference to verifying drainage system design at commissioning, but most methods fall short, focusing primarily on leak detection rather than performance verification. This research introduces a standardized methodology that simulates realistic load conditions and measures the system’s ability to manage air pressure transients - an often overlooked aspect in current testing. 🏗️The tests were conducted at the 128-meter The National Lift Tower, the UK’s tallest drainage test facility, and benefited from Aliaxis’ High-Rise Building research center facility.
