💬 We “[c]an’t divorce the risks to the mission from the broader defense community.” — Joe Bryan, former Chief Sustainability Officer & Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense and Principal at Muswell Orange, LLC. What's Clear. Resilience Week 2024's "The Future of #Transmission Expansion for #NationalDefense" highlighted why we need to view the U.S. electric power grid as a cornerstone of our national defense. The United States Department of Defense is an important stakeholder that is invested in enhancing the US #transmission system’s national defense capabilities. The following session speakers underscored the importance of promoting DoD-utility partnerships to build transmission routes across-the-fence-line. Leidos Hits Key “Electrify the Mission” Milestone It continues to be a joy to work with such talented, brilliant people focused on bringing resilient clean energy solutions to our clients, such as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for IE. ➤ Leidos-managed, cybersecure #EV #charging equipment is now powering non-tactical vehicles on an increasing number of USAF installations. ➤ Our innovative "budget-neutral charging as a service (#CaaS)" business model is allowing funds previously locked up for supporting infrastructure to be redirected to mission. ➤ The enhanced power infrastructure we've designed and built is enabling new #resilience options for installation commanders. As my colleague Paul Grimes acutely put it, "Collaborating with an exceptional team of government leaders, we beat our own expectations, designing efficient power infrastructure to enable scalable implementation." https://lnkd.in/eH3Vbezp Josh Wepman Brandon Garcia Brian Dolan Vicki Schmanske Seema Aziz Justin R. Many of us are old enough to remember the fall of Enron, but many may not understand the role they played and its impact on grid resiliency. Gretchen Bakke's book "The Grid" does a great job of unpackaging the impacts of wheeling power and the deregulation of vertically integrated providers. If you are curious to learn more I highly recommend Bakke's book, and of course giving our guest Robert Bryce's substack a follow for a more in-depth and current take on the impacts of deregulation at: https://lnkd.in/gfcWG5dg . In 1994 Congress decided to deregulate electricity turning it from a regulated service to a commodity which was thought at the time would result in cheaper electricity. As we now know via the recent issues in Texas and ERCOT and the exorbitant rates to bring on additional generation and the ever more frequent outages and rolling blackouts that this isn't always the case. BLUF. The #resilience of our electric power grid is integral to the success of our military's missions. By The Numbers. Over 99% of United States Department of Defense (DoD) bases rely on the commercial #electricity #grid for power, and the majority of bases also use civilian natural gas, water, wastewater service, and telecommunications #infrastructure. In 2021, DoD reported over 6,200 unplanned utility outages with a combined duration of close to 3,500 days. The "Transmission Expansion For National Defense (TREND)" publication presents concepts for aligning transmission #gridinvestment with #nationaldefense to enhance our nation’s #transmission system. Explore the statistics and strategies in TREND. https://bit.ly/CSLTREND_24 Thank you to our Association of Defense Communities (ADC) partners. #TransmissionExpansionforNationalDefense

In my latest op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, I argue that mutual, assured destruction, or the second-strike strategy, is not the best way to safeguard American security and protect citizens. Rather, we should revisit Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative project.

The next conflict will begin in the Space domain. Space assets play a crucial role in ensuring our first strike capability and securing victory in a fast-paced multi-domain blitz. Adapting our budget prorities to prioritize this is essential for maintaining our competitive edge.

We belive this at Vroom Solar. The more individuals can control their energy future on a micro level the more secure we will be as a nation. We also believe that microgrids need to be affordable for the average American citizen.

The Czech Army is redefining its defense power! With billions allocated toward modern artillery, advanced radar systems, and American Harris radios, Czechia’s military is evolving for the challenges of modern warfare. This strategic investment includes acquiring 62 Caesar howitzers from France, a move aimed at fortifying artillery capabilities with precision and mobility. Communication is equally critical, and the Czech Army is integrating over 4,000 Harris radios, offering secure, encrypted channels that enhance coordination across units. Passive radar technology, developed with local firms, adds a layer of covert intelligence gathering, which, coupled with satellite systems, supports operational resilience in diverse environments. Dušan Rovenský and other military experts emphasize artillery’s importance in today’s conflict landscape, underscoring Czechia’s proactive measures in strengthening NATO’s regional security posture. Czechia’s commitment to both national defense and alliance obligations highlights its role as a strategic powerhouse in Central Europe. #DefenseIndustry #MilitaryModernization #CzechArmy #HarrisRadios #CaesarHowitzers #NationalSecurity #NATO #EuropeanSecurity https://lnkd.in/gF8M9tTz

Ever wonder what it takes to modernize a historic Air Force base? It starts with understanding what’s beneath the surface—every pipe, line, and connection. At F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY, Merrick is completing a multi-phase utility designation project to map, analyze, and model underground systems. Currently in phase 3, we’ve previously identified and verified underground utilities for more than 26,500 feet of roadway, helping to streamline future operations and improve infrastructure efficiency across the base. #wearemerrick
