As the ICJ begins historic hearings on #climatechange. Cynthia Houniuhi, President of Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, shares a powerful testimony: "The entire COP process has been hijacked by large emitters and major #fossilfuel producers, turning into a polluters' safe harbor and a trap for everyone else"

Given the urgency of our climate crisis, B.C. needs a stronger methane reduction policy to achieve a more ambitious target of near-zero methane from oil and gas by 2030 – rather than near-zero by 2035. Together, let's call on the provincial government to raise the bar on methane reduction commitments, and take clear and urgent action to save our climate: https://lnkd.in/gXeXhQd9

#Oil, #gas and heavy industries such as #cement and #steel making are banking on developing systems that will deal with the emissions responsible for global warming. But the question of whether it can be done at the necessary scale and cost remains. #CarbonCapture #ESG #NetZero

Recent reports once again accuse the major oil companies of decades of disinformation to mislead the public about the causes and solutions to climate change. The rules of their game haven't changed since I wrote Climate Myths: The Campaign Against Climate Science (available at https://lnkd.in/gGagdkxY) in 2013. It's all about protecting the industry's trillions at the public (and planet's) expense. Big Oil's now touting "direct-air carbon capture" to keep fossil plants running--while privately acknowledging it's prohibitively expensive. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D.-MD), got it right: “Big Oil continues to conceal the facts . . . .in order to block the climate action we need. This is interesting it's certainly true that that Oil and Gas traders are ensuring that Voluntary offsets are not traded in an attempt to keep the price lower or worse to make sure the VCM fails. The problem is that the whole Standards and Registries should never have been put together. Together leads to a lack of quality and conflicts of interest. #actonclimate

The prime beneficiary of looser rules on offsets could be the industry largely responsible for the global climate disaster, writes Alastair Marsh.

We must #Actnow to make peace with Mother Nature. To be serious about addressing climate change and to tap into climate finance, all countries must include all GHGs in their NDCs and national climate policy frameworks and do so in a way that enables tracking of progress under the Global Methane Pledge. This means greater attention to methane and other super pollutants.

Carbon credits can incentivize climate action and be a win for poor people. They can bring much-needed income to poor communities blessed with natural resources, while financing decarbonization efforts. https://lnkd.in/ey6rhUc7

We have every right to be anxious about 11/5, but state level climate policy is still, and always will be, critical. So let's talk about it at Green Energy Consumers Alliance Fall Meeting on 11/13. https://lnkd.in/gY4wMkUu

#TheClimateClock Trump has named fossil fuel executive Chris Wright as the Energy Secretary. He is a fracking veteran, which simply put is the process of extracting oil and gas from seabed and underground sources. Chris Wright is the founder, CEO, and Chairman of Liberty Energy, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and it is not surprising that he has been dismissing clean energy as misleading and has been a vocal critic of Biden’s administrations efforts to combat climate change. But what does all this mean for non-US economies? Would this impact the global policy and trade if US shifts its ideology on climate change policies? Lets discuss that.
US President-Elect Donald Trump has selected Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright to head the Department Of Energy. Wright, who is a fracking veteran, also suggests a likely shift in US climate policies. Sonal Bhutra reports on how climate policies will shape going ahead #climatechange #trump #climate #donaldtrump #trumponclimate #cnbctv18digital
