As working parents, sometimes the hustle and bustle of life can leave us little time to pay attention to the smaller details of our children's lives. Running from work/school to sports/dance/art class to homework and bedtime prep can often mean quick meals squeezed in between activities. Without realizing it, we go an extended period of time without cooking "real food" or sitting down to focused family meals. This can lead to feeding challenges and/or have feeding challenges go undetected. It was fascinating to me when COVID hit 4.5 years ago, I got a huge influx of calls from school aged families saying they all of a sudden realized how "bad" of an eater their child was. With everything shut down and everyone home for all meals, it was quickly noticed how picky/particular the child was and how rigid their food requirements were. The pandemic served as a wake-up call for many families, highlighting the importance of slowing down and paying closer attention to our children's eating habits. While life has largely returned to its busy pace, it's crucial to remember that making time for shared meals and observing our children's mealtime behaviors can reveal early signs of potential feeding challenges. Prioritizing even a few dedicated family meals each week can help us reconnect and address any underlying concerns before they escalate. Let's strive for balance, not just in our schedules, but in nurturing our children's well-being, one meal at a time.

The other day, my son asked, “𝘔𝘶𝘮, 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘴?” 🦌 Visiting the Appleton Christmas Barn (if you live in Oxfordshire you might know how great that is!) has become a December tradition for us, and it’s these simple moments my kids hold onto year after year.
