Divya B.S, thanks for writing a comment on my post (https://lnkd.in/gt2UmTA3) and asking me to read Victor's posts and I have started doing that, besides hitting the 'follow' button on his profile. I also "followed" you, while I chose not to accept your invite. IMHO, invites are pointless. If I like to follow anyone, I hit follow button! I expect the same. I have also "unfollowed" 50% of my 1st degree connections, whose content were useless for me! Victor's posts are to the point, well-structured and honest! Interesting reads! Thanks to Tarang Paradkar for tagging Victor on that post! We recently have seen both Dave Ulrich and Josh Bersin assuaging hurt done to HR folks by the NYT article (link here from my post where Dave has shared his PoV- https://lnkd.in/g5dYbPaB) Victor C.- 1. If you do, what set of miseries do you see in the recruiters around you being in their roles today? 2. What set of curses that they have are self-ordained vs hurled upon them by the candidates? 3. Why failed recruiters go to HR (Generalist/HRBP roles and at times L&D admin roles) while successful HR folks do Total Rewards or TM/OD? Just to warm you up: Recently I met the CFO of a PE firm with ~$5 Bn AUM and portfolio companies like Surveymonkey, Trellix, fishbowl, Wrike, etc. and he told me that, "it seems those who don't find any job do recruitment!" He is right, I didn't find a job at campus at Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Pune after my MBA and I started as a recruiter for a company that could afford a 10 ft by 20 ft office in Bangalore. MBA-HR from even the IIMs and XL and TISS etc have a safety net in recruitment roles. It is different story that, they may debut into Total Rewards role in a leading global C&B Consulting firm. :)
A Mumbai based recruiter from a recruiting and staffing firm has a post on LinkedIn, where she says that, they have been "mandated" to hire a finance controller for two "fast growing, dynamic" start-ups in Bangalore. Q(Qualification)-CA PQE (Post Qualification Experience): 6 to 10 Y I & S (Industry and Sector): Manufacturing BL/NC (Budget Limit/No Constraints): 40L WD-WH (Workday and Work hours) ("6 days a Week") and NRN threshold through not limited to 70 hours! BC (Not the one you thought after seeing 6 days week and NRN threshold, it is Behavioral Competencies)- A Finance Wizard, An "Innovator", a "Strategist", and someone who "Thrives in Fast-paced work environment" and someone who dreams to work with their "Trailblazing" team! Literally, the post has written all these words which you see in double quotes, including the 6 day work week for these two roles in two different start-ups. As a recruiter myself and as an HR guy, I have deeper problems with this job post than the 6-day work week! Listing my problems below- 1. Joke # 1: When did a Finance "Controller" become an "Innovator" and "Strategic"? If there is any job in finance, which is purely bean-counting, penny-pinching (Shashtron Mein Ise hi "Chindi-Chori" Kaha Gaya Hai), it is Finance Controller! You can still see them using water damper while counting notes, if they don't use spit to wet their fingers 😅 . I have seen them putting plastic tapes over the numeric amount on the bank cheques. 😆 2. Joke # 2: Just because it is a start-up, dear 3rd party recruiter, please stop using words like, "Dynamic", "Wiz", "Fast-Paced", "Trailblazing", Innovator, Strategic and Sustainability, especially when you are looking for a 6 day, 70 plus hour a week Mazdoor! Start-up Koi Bharat Mata Nahin, Jiske Liye Log Pranon Ki Aahooti Dene Ke Liye Panktibadh Khade Hain! 🙄 Note: I just improvised by adding NRN and 70-hour thing here, or else her job post carried everything else that I mentioned. Look at the hypocrisy of this trailblazing, making a dent in the universe kind of start-up and team and their CEO and CFO are not coming and posting the Jobs on LinkedIn but paying a staffing firm to do the same thing in such a messy way and they will pay for all this too! As a start-up, who knows the value of a Finance Controller is not coming in the "open" being transparent as a trailblazing CEO, CFO and other such stellar team and appealing on LinkedIn! What happens to their LinkedIn presence and influence and heroics, when you have to behave like old school, sarkari way of attracting talent? PS: Nothing against the recruiter here. Just seeing how fake has hiring and talent attraction become, even when LinkedIn made the world collapse!
