Managing the candidate experience should be a top priority for you when trying to hire someone. One area that a lot of construction companies can improve on is timing. Hiring is an investment - not just financially, but time-wise too. If you’re trying to hire someone, make sure you have the time to commit before jumping into it. I get it, we’re all busy and have a million things to do. But candidates don’t like to wait around for days or even weeks sometimes after they’ve submitted their resume. Chances are, they’re applying to multiple companies and they’re going to forget about you if you take too long to get back to them. This is one of the biggest reasons companies lose out on great talent. The more seamless you can make the hiring process, the better chance you’ll have at landing high performers. Make the time and actually commit to the process - you and your potential employees will be glad you did. #groundupconstructionrecruiting #construction #hiring

The construction industry is growing faster than the general job market, meaning there are many new job openings. However, that means you’ll need more experienced team members to train and manage new hires, provide seasoned business expertise, and help you navigate industry trends. That’s where mid-career talent, or workers 10-20 years into the industry, are especially helpful. In this blog post, we’ll review how your construction company can effectively recruit and hire mid-career talent to help your company reach new heights. Sometimes, waiting around for the perfect candidate just doesn’t cut it. I’ve learned over the years that the best hires often don’t come knocking—they’re out there, but it takes a bit of digging to find them. At Mill Street (Aust), we’re no strangers to rolling up our sleeves and doing the legwork. Whether it’s tracking down experienced Electrical Engineers, skilled Project Managers, or other niche specialists, headhunting is where we really make a difference. It’s not about making a big splash, but about quiet persistence and knowing who to reach out to. If you’re tired of seeing the same CVs, maybe it’s time for a different approach. Lillia Patterson & Luke Beniston always up for a chat about how we can help connect you with the right person. #Recruitment #Headhunting #MillStreetAust #BuildingNetworks

All hiring managers in construction say the same thing: "Don't send me resumes of candidates that switch jobs every year or two. We want people with strong tenures." That is completely understandable. Hiring someone is an investment, and companies want to make sure that the individual will be there for the long haul. There are a few things, however, that often get overlooked. 1) Candidates with strong tenure tend to make more money. 2) Candidates with strong tenure tend to demand more money. 3) Candidates with strong tenure have a lot more opportunities to choose from. Bottom Line: Candidates with strong tenure are more difficult to hire. If you're an organization that is serious about hiring people with strong tenure, you have to step up to the plate. These individuals do not come cheap. #Construction #Hiring #Tenure

The "ideal candidate" is not always your best hire. Instead of just seeking candidates who tick every box, think outside it for a second. Consider the hiring potential in those who may not fit the traditional, "tried-and-true" mold. With the right training and education, they could become invaluable assets to your team. Especially those who express a strong interest in growing at a company. By investing in development and training upfront, you not only grow your team, but you enrich your flexibility and openness to change. #construction #constructioncompany #hiring #groundupconstructionrecruiting
