Today The King's Fund has published the findings of its independent learning review into the RCP following the #RCPEGM.
We have fully accepted the report and its 10 recommendations. We have pledged to learn and, more importantly, to act, improve and rebuild for fellows and members. We will do better and refocus on putting physicians first.
‘The report highlights an organisation that was neither listening, nor responding quickly enough, to the questions and concerns being raised by its fellows and members.
We fully accept the findings of this review and we are committed to do better. With the presidential election also on the way in spring 2025, I believe that, for the RCP, this is a fresh start.
We are grateful for the support of fellows and members, and we welcome hearing your views to continue driving positive change at the RCP.’ Dr Mumtaz Patel, senior censor and vice president for education and training, who is acting as RCP president.
Work is already underway in a number of key areas including:
-establishing a PA oversight group
-creating a ‘next generation of physicians’ workstream to put physicians at the centre of college work
-closing the Faculty of Physician Associates on 31 December 2024
-a review of our constitutional and professional governance
-a refreshed membership strategy is in development.
RCP Council and the RCP Board of Trustees will steer and monitor progress in all these areas.
