Hydroelectric dam penstocks often require preventative maintenance to ensure optimal operation. However, manual inspections pose significant dangers and may not offer a comprehensive picture of the state of the system over time. To address this challenge, we developed a unique robotic system by integrating components from Trimble Applanix’s Indoor Mobile Mapping Solution (TIMMS) onto our Husky robot. The robot is also equipped with our OutdoorNav Autonomy Software making the system ideal for a full inspection workflow.
