Sometimes you just have to do something that intimidates you and is outside of your comfort zone. 🤓 I baked an apple pie from scratch. Made the crust; cut and peeled the apples and put that baby in the oven. 🤨 I haven’t made an apple pie since junior high Home Ec class. 😂 It’s not that making a pie is hard - it just takes time and you need to follow the directions and watch your ingredients because baking is science. Making an apple pie from scratch is one of the recipes I have on my list of things to cook to challenge myself. (I also have a cheese soufflé on that list. Now, that’s scary.☺️) Did the pie turn out? Yes. Was it perfect? No. Would I get a handshake from Paul Hollywood? Also no. Did I learn a lot? Yes. Will I do it again? Yes. Am I proud of myself? Confidence is the key to many things including one of my favourite things, baking a cake. Nothing can shake your confidence as failure. Especially when you have put so much care and attention into it, just like when baking a cake for someone special. To achieve our desired outcomes, it is important to understand what is happening during the process. Any deviation from the process or misunderstanding of what goes with what, may end in failure – and that is something we wish to avoid. So, what is happening when a cake is being baked! The first step is called creaming, when fat and sugar are mixed. This process results in little bubbles of air being trapped in the mixture, each one surrounded by a film of fat. Trapped air produces a light finished cake. With the addition of egg, a layer is formed around each bubble that when heated turns rigid, preventing the bubble from popping and ruining the cake. And so on and so forth. I am led by the science of cooking and this interest extends to business. Where I am fascinated by how things work together and how processes work together. Process understanding and control within the process gives us confidence that the outcome will be the same each and every time a task is completed. #confidence #processcontrol #process #understandingprocess

FOoD LOvE I love baking popovers once I learned how easy they are to prepare, bake and enjoy. I love how airy they are. I love how you could eat them with jam. Personally, I am a diehard black cherry preserves lover. I posted it here before: I like Preppy Kitchen’s recipe, former Math/Science teacher, John Kanell is precise and his recipes are so easy to follow. 👩🍳1 1/4 cups of flour, I use bread flour. 👩🍳1 1/4 cups milk 👩🍳3 lg eggs, room temperature 👩🍳3/4 tsp salt 👩🍳3 tbsp melted butter Heat oven 450 F. Blend in Blender for 20 seconds. Scrap, blend for another 20 seconds. Refrigerate until buttered tins are ready. Heat tins in oven for 10 minutes. Quick blend of mixture for 10 seconds, and pour mixture into tins. Bake 18 minutes. Do not open oven. Reset oven to 350 F and bake for another 18 minutes. Insert knife to let out steam. Let them rest for a minute. Transfer to serving tray. ☕️ Eat together. Mimosas optional, lattes are wonderful. #creation #sundayvibes #family

Hello friends family and acquaintances today is NATIONAL HOMEMADE BREAD DAY - November 17! On November 17th, homes will fill with warm, comforting aromas reminding us to slow down and enjoy National Homemade Bread Day. Yeast bread calls for us to slow down. We need to spend time with each other as we work the dough and let it rest and rise before baking. Quick breads allow a special treat to share and enjoy with coffee or tea. Other homemade breads, such as donuts, pretzels, muffins, and biscuits, add variety to our everyday meals. And making them with friends and family brings joy and an opportunity to exchange recipes. Those who make homemade bread commit to using good ingredients and investing in the time. They make it not only because they love the flavor, but because they know the people they love to do also. Homemade bread enriches the flavors of our meals and the flavors of our conversations, too. Bread is full of symbolism around the world, across cultures and religions. In our lives, bread is valuable. We consider our livelihood to be our daily bread. We are making it, breaking it, consuming it as part of our faith. Bread can be exciting if it's sliced or boring if it's white. There's a bonus bread, too. However, it seems a bit messy if it's buttered on both sides. PATRIOTIC COOKIE BARS Ingredients * 1 Box of Cake Mix (Yellow or White) * 2 Eggs * 5 TBSP Melted Butter * 2 cups Chocolate Chips * 2 cups M&Ms (Red, White and Blue Mix) 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. Grease 9 x 13 pan. 3. In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, melted butter, and box of cake mix. 4. Add chocolate chips and M&Ms and mix until combined. 5.
