Impactful interviews marking the start of Small Charity Week 📢 According to new research from the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), tens of thousands of small charities are the backbone of our society, offering essential lifelines to many communities. There are around 157,400 small charities in the UK, and they are crucial. Nearly half of Brits believe the government should do more to support them, and over two-thirds say their closure would severely impact local communities. Charities - the set and forget myth No doubt all persons responsible for charities (board, management etc) are aware that there is an ongoing obligation to review the governance and operations of the charity to ensure it remains eligible to be registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission. For those that need a refresher or are looking for a way to document this, the ACNC has a self evaluation form that can be completed and signed by the board. It's a good way to meet your obligations... but ultimately ensuring all responsible people are invested and across the activities of the charity is an even better outcome. To refresh the Charity Governance Code for the first time since 2020, a public consultation has been launched, inviting charities to give their feedback. The code, which supports charities and their trustees in developing high governance standards is primarily based on the Charity Commission's guidance. Charities across England and Wales, whether they use the code or not, are encouraged to participate in the survey, which asks if they would be "willing to pay a small fee, based on your organization's size, to use the code." The survey deadline is set for August 11th, and the code's steering group is seeking input on securing long-term funding, exploring potential corporate partnerships, and other funding suggestions.
