Research methods course at the NIT Northern Institute of Technology Management! Marko Sarstedt (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) kicked off Day 2 of our course on PLS-SEM using SmartPLS. We have a great group of researchers and practitioners from around the world (i.e., Australia to Canada). Contents of the foundations of PLS-SEM course: - Fundamentals of latent variable modeling and model development - An introduction to PLS-SEM and its characteristics - When (not) to use PLS-SEM PLS path model estimation using the standard, and weighted PLS (WPLS) algorithms - Assessment and reporting of measurement and structural model results including bootstrapping - Prediction-oriented results analysis including PLSpredict - Further criteria for model assessment such as HTMT for discriminant validity, goodness-of-fit indices (e.g., SRMR), and metrics for model comparisons (e.g., BIC) - Importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) of PLS-SEM results - Mediation analysis - Outlook on advanced techniques such as necessary condition analysis Jan-Michael Becker (BI Norwegian Business School) and I, Christian M. We are happy to have another ERCIS working paper published 🥳 It is the result of a Master's Seminar at the Münster Information Systems Department, edited by Stefan Klein and Carsten Totz. The seminar entitled “#Inversions - The Good 😇 and the Bad 😈 of Digitalization” was designed as an invitation to students to analyze and critically reflect cases of inversion, where good intentions – eventually – turned into bad outcomes 🤷 . The working paper combines four student contributions whose themes highlight the pertinence of studying the inversion of digital technologies’ outcomes: • Disinformation as part of Russias Information Warfare • The impact of algorithmic management on labour relations • Implications of ChatGPT for students in higher education • The contribution of blended teaching on the sustainability of institutions of higher education. Excited to share that I have successfully completed the NPTEL Online Certification Course on “Research Methodology” conducted by IIT Madras! 🎓 This course provided in-depth knowledge on various aspects of research, including literature survey, experimental skills, data analysis, and technical writing. It also covered essential topics such as creativity in research, ethics, intellectual property, and the design of experiments. After much anticipation and giving justice to months of hard work and collaboration, I am beyond excited to share that our research paper, "Revolutionizing Educational Assessment: Deep Learning for Question Paper Quality Evaluation," has been officially published by Springer Nature as part of the book ICT for Intelligent Systems (Proceedings of ICTIS 2024, Volume 5), which is a part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems. 🎉 Exciting News! 🎉 We are thrilled to announce that our paper "Risk-Sensitive Reward-Free Reinforcement Learning with CVaR" has been accepted to ICML 2024. This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort with Guanlin Liu, under the guidance of Prof. Lifeng Lai. In our research, we introduce a novel CVaR-based risk-sensitive reward-free reinforcement learning framework (CVaR-RF RL). During the exploration phase, we developed CVaR-RF-UCRL to efficiently navigate environments without reward information. The trajectories collected are proven to be upper bounded, and we establish a lower bound for any CVaR-RF exploration algorithm. Furthermore, we present the CVaR-RF-planning algorithm and CVaR-VI, which together enable solving CVaR RL for any given reward function without further interaction with the environment. Additionally, we propose CVaR-VI-DISC, a discretized version of CVaR-VI for direct implementation in real-world settings while maintaining a small optimization error. These contributions significantly advance the field of risk-sensitive RL, ensuring both the efficiency and practical applicability of our CVaR-RF framework.
