We were pleased to host Rachael Parish from the State Department at the US Embassy in London, and Perran Moon, Labour Party MP for Camborne, Redruth & Hayle on a visit to South Crofty where we discussed the importance of tin as a critical mineral and the key role it plays in modern life and the energy transition, and South Crofty’s potential to become a secure source of responsibly sourced tin within the UK.

While I’m generally supportive of clean energy production, I am of the mind our local FN leadership should remain neutral on the matter until the process plays out. Speaking to a project in advance can call into question the process and impartiality thereof. Moreover, as one of the majority of citizens who resides off-reserve, zero information has flowed out to inform us on this pumped storage proposal, which is not only a concern but poses a risk to the project. Participant and engagement funding should encompass modes of engaging off-reserve majority. These knowledge and capacity building exercises should strengthen Nation-building regardless of place. We’re either all citizens or we’re not, and proponents at can play an important yet silent role in supporting Nation-building by providing enough capacity to engage citizens outside community.

Taft's journey through economic change and environmental imperatives is a topic of personal interest to me, having previously worked at Elk Hills/Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 1. The transition towards a more sustainable future is evident in their efforts towards carbon capture and a just transition. The #EUSEW 2024 Highlights include a selection of inspiring and thought-provoking moments from this year’s event. They include the quotes from two of our speakers during our session “From Waste to Renewable Energy: Biomethane and Renewable Energy Communities”, that was successfully attended by around 500 participants. 🌍 “We have to harness the potential that we have in these local communities. We have to invest in empowering them, in involving them, and also making sure that the knowledge that we have in this room gets even broader.” - Nevin Alija, Member of the Global Future Energy Leaders programme of the World Energy Council, member of the EUSEW Young Ambassadors and an EU Climate Pact Ambassador 👥 “We need to think about the future generation, so when we talk about communities, we also need to think about what the young people are thinking; what do they think they want our energy system to look like in the future? So, it's not just about us today deciding it should be like this and these are our targets, it's also listening to the younger generations.” - Mirjam Röder, Associate Professorial Research Fellow, Energy and Bioproducts Research Institute at the Aston University of England ✨ Check out the full EUSEW 2024 Highlights: https://lnkd.in/dkFi5Mjp CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency

As part of CAPE's 30th anniversary celebrations, our last webinar brought together speakers to reflect on the pivotal contributions that helped shift Alberta’s reliance on coal and drive environmental progress. However, the recent approval of the largest proposed thermal coal mine in Canadian history is a stark reminder that the fight for protecting clean air and advancing sustainable energy solutions is far from over. In this clip, Dr. Joe Vipond discusses how a front-page article challenged myths about clean air in Alberta. Watch the full panel here: https://loom.ly/hcXmitc

▶️ In Part 2 of this interview with E-FWD member John Underhill, we get an academic view on the role of plugging and abandonment in decarbonisation. Listen in and discover some of the risks posed by wells that were plugged and abandoned 40 years ago, but are now used for carbon storage. John offers excellent insights into the "technical, data-led, evidence-based approach" used by the University of Aberdeen to help inform decision-making at the North Sea Transition Authority, The Crown Estate, the Crown Estate Scotland, and the wider #energypolicy community. #hydrocarbons #spatialplanning #energytransition #decarbonisation 🎦 Patrice Burnside

The Shapiro Administration’s $19.6 million investment in reclaiming abandoned coal mines is more than just an environmental effort—it’s a commitment to creating local jobs and revitalizing communities across Pennsylvania. With the largest inventory of abandoned coal mines in the nation, Pennsylvania is tackling critical issues like hazardous water quality, unsafe land conditions, and ecosystem restoration. This funding will support vital projects that clean up waterways, reclaim land for future development, and reduce health and safety risks. Not only does this work enhance community safety, but it also creates opportunities for workers in the environmental restoration sector. As Pennsylvania continues to address its $5 billion need for reclamation, these projects are paving the way for a cleaner, safer future while generating meaningful job growth in both the short- and long-term. Pennsylvania has been a fossil-fuel state since oil was first discovered in the state in 1859. The Keystone State entered a new boom cycle in the early 2000s when fracking took off. In the past 20 years, there have been numerous laws passed to promote, protect, and fund the fossil-fuel industry’s foothold in Pennsylvania—making it more challenging for residents to transition to a clean economy and protect their air quality. EF Grantees in the state continue to fight for clean energy alternatives. https://bit.ly/49CuaBJ

Industrialising the Vhembe - a false promise of a better tomorrow. Did you know that 12 open-cast coal mines are planned for the unexploited Greater Soutpansberg Coalfield? It will be the largest coal-fuelled industrial development in South Africa’s history and will tear up one of the country’s last untouched, yet unprotected wild areas.
