A Year of Transformation: Modernising Wonga's Platform "Stratus" The Wonga team embarked on an ambitious journey for over 13 months, modernising our entire platform. Last year, on the 6th of December 2023, we bid farewell to our ageing, monolithic system and embraced the power of the cloud, migrating to AWS (natively). This wasn't just a technical feat; it was a complete overhaul. We meticulously updated every integration, carefully selected a new decision management solution, and meticulously optimised our architecture for peak performance and scalability. The results have been nothing short of spectacular. What once felt like a slow, cumbersome process has been transformed into a dynamic, agile engine. We now confidently release 10 or more updates every month, all without a single moment of downtime. A marked improvement of around 1 or 2 monthly releases with the added prospect of downtime. This newfound agility directly translates into a superior customer experience, as our platform responds faster and more reliably than ever before. But the benefits extend beyond speed and efficiency. Our engineering team is thriving. Freed from the constraints of the old system, they're empowered to innovate, experiment, and push the boundaries of what's possible. And the icing on the cake? Significant cost savings achieved by embracing a true cloud-native approach, surpassing even the most optimistic projections. And you better believe someone else WILL come along who uses every tool possible to make their life easier.
