One way to increase the #safety and #reliability of the SW in embedded systems, for example in the automotive sector, is the robust implementation of fail-safe defaults and graceful degradations. Fail-safe defaults ensure that when an error occurs, the system reverts to a known, stable state, minimizing risks and preventing further damage. This means that in the event of a fault, the system defaults to the safest possible condition. For example, if a sensor fails, the vehicle might limit its speed or come to a controlled stop to ensure the safety of the passengers and others on the road. Graceful degradation allows the system to continue operating at a reduced functionality level during errors, rather than failing completely. This ensures that essential operations remain active, providing a buffer against total system shutdown and increasing the overall reliability. For instance, in a medical device, if a non-critical component fails, the device might still deliver essential functions, such as monitoring vital signs, while alerting the user to the issue. By properly implementing fail-safe defaults and graceful degradation, we can provide systems that with good levels of robustness under normal conditions but also maintain a good level of safety and functionality during unforeseen events. Both combined allow, for example, to drive the car for some extra distance in case of a failure in the speed sensors, by limiting the maximum speed while keeping functionalities like braking and assisted direction to help the driver to safely stop the vehicle as soon as possible, while providing some alert on the vehicle or screen to request an emergency stop. #EmbeddedSystems #Automotive #SWEngineering #SWDevelopment #AutomotiveSafety #SystemDesign

The XSENSOR Hashtag #seat system is used to measure the Hashtag #pressure-distribution between a body and a contact surface such as seats, chairs or headrests. The measurement data can be recorded statically and dynamically. Numerous important functions have been implemented in the extensive software package, which was developed in cooperation with car manufacturers and, in particular, automotive and aerospace seat manufacturers. This means that it is no longer necessary to process the measured data in external software solutions after the seat pressure measurement (but it is still possible). A system consists of the following components: - Pressure mapping sensor (LX- or PX-series) - Electronics package (X3 Pro Sensor Pack, X3 Pro electronic box, power supply (230VAC & battery pack) and connection cables) - Pro software (actual version is PROV8) The sensors are supplied with an Hashtag #ISO17025 calibration certificate as standard and are available in various sizes and spatial resolutions (see list - page 6). Depending on the size and resolution of the sensor, up to 4 sensors can be used at the same time, e.g. to measure 2 Hashtag #carseats at the same time (each with seat and backrest).
