The Olympics and Paralympics are just around the corner. The main talk naturally is around how many medals India can win. One topic which often surfaces but should be completely avoided is comparisons between the Olympic and Paralympic medal tally of India. Not at all a fair comparison for many reasons. The progress markers for India to improve are the respective performances from Tokyo 2020. India won 7 (1 Gold) medals at the Olympics and 19 (5 Gold) medals at the Paralympics. Two real possibilities for Paris 2024 which I am super excited about are 1. India’s first female Olympic Gold medalist ! 2. Gold, Silver, Bronze in the same event on the Paralympic podium ! Let’s cheer for India 🇮🇳 💙 #Olympics #Paralympics #Paris2024

You know what... SAURABH SINGH I look at things differently... &, therefore need to apply utmost discretion...before I say...or write something. Particularly... on sensitive medals tally of Indian Paralympics team. I must thank you... that you did not tag #NaMo, or thanked him in a profuse .manner ... for this grand success. Usually, everybody in India does it. More acceptable .the flavour of the season. In no remotest way, to diminish personal success received by each winner... & beyond winners...even to participants. It is the strength of the character...that undeageatible character...in India...and beyond India... that human spirit... That we all salute. In this moment of pride, I believe, it is appropriate to look at our #Blacksheeps as well... We should not all be drunk with the einey liquor of success and celebrate... But paise... and critically re-examine how the nation has treated #VineshPhogat ... is it because she failed to win a medal... or "we" did not want her to win a medal... or Or ... whatever incidents and accidents happened... Or stories like these... "Indian para-athlete forced to beg" https://lnkd.in/gChRh6Au And we in India know well stories like above are rare in India... they rather are the norms... And not exceptions... And...the medal tally... for the most populous nation of the world...does not speak anything great... but big... big shame... Purely... out of curiosity... I checked disability population in India... and in China. Was surprised to see much low for India .. 2.21% in India vs 6.34% in China...of respective population ... 2021 data... Whatever be the reason or truth...my bias was it to be much higher for India... due to our malnutrition in women...or in children... or lack of universal vaccination. However the data proved me wrong... At the same time... my skeptical mind does not rule out the possibility of we undercounting our handicapped section of population... Just a research bias... you know...we all suffer from it. However, this contemporary paper puts it at 4%... and I acknowledge that Para-Olympics Organisers have defined degree of handicappedness for qualifying norms too. Whatever be the truth... cause... facilities we provide to our not so lucky section of our populace... deeper probing is needed. I usually get pissed off by our... "Indians" habit of being the first...foremost...biggest clappers on any such story.. presented as #ProudMomentOfIndia story... Upon investigation, such stories, often hide deeper rotting society of ours...and present "A shining Image of India"... which actually is...wrong...most often. Felt... it is important to share this contrarian views too... at this #PartyTime of celebrations. I again congratulate each of the winners...participants...for their indomitable spirit. https://lnkd.in/gTCepzvq
