This was a great event. Thank you to the panellists Rebecca Ng, Suman Laudari, Kashmira Dave, PhD, Kate Mitchell, Swapneel Thite, Ph.D. and Stephen Abblitt, PhD for generously sharing their experiences and wisdom as TELedvisor researchers. Some of my key takeaways from the session are: Undertaking research helps us, as TELedvisors, to reflect on our own practice, supports our lifelong learning, is driven by our passion and curiosity, and allows us to tell and share stories and lived experiences in our voice with the community. Tips for those wanting to get started in research include: 1. Look for research opportunities, they are all around you in your daily work as a TELedvisor. 2. Read widely and examine how the articles are structured, methodologies used, writing style and gaps in the research. 3. Collaborating with others is key to success. 4. Gaining ethics approval for research by professional staff can be problematic or not supported in some universities, so look to partner with an academic or undertake research that does not require ethics such as literature reviews, autoethnographies or desktop reviews of public data. 5. Attend the ASCILITE Spring into Research School.
Last Thursday, 25th July, I had the pleasure of being part of the panel for the TELedvisors webinar in "Get into Reserach". The panel discussed how Third Space professionals can get started with research. Some very interesting questions by Sharon Altena. It was not only a very engaging discussion but also a wide spectrum of panel members' experiences, bringing in a variety of perspectives for the audience. The recording is available here for anyone who missed it:https://lnkd.in/gqdJxD2k It was a pleasure meeting Swapneel Thite, Ph.D., Suman Laudari, Rebecca Ng. Great to work with you, Kate Mitchell, and it was great meeting you again, Stephen Abblitt, PhD. I wish I could talk more about the academic-professional divide in a little more depth and its impact on third-space professionals and their sense of identity.

FROM SCIENCE FICTION TO REALITY: EXPLORING THE EMERGING THREAT OF SPACE PIRACY The Cold Star Project returns next week with an interview of the two authors of Space Piracy: Preparing for a Criminal Crisis in Orbit coming out from Wiley and Sons in February. A much farther-reaching and deeper topic than you may have guessed. Watch for our posting of the discussion with Hugh Taylor and Marc Feldman next week (and you can pre-purchase the book, as we have, on Amazon today). #spaceindustry #spacepirate #spaceexploration

Each Friday, 9:15ish (Eastern). One email. Let our space news correspondent, Tai Rade ( / tie rah-day / ), fill you in on what you need to know about what's happening in space. Takes about 3 - 5 minutes to read. Tai's a little cheeky, and a lot enlightening, which makes her "Tai Report" worth making room for. Misinformation and the Space Economy Misinformation—be it in the form of propaganda, hyperbole, false flags, or misdirection—has historically been a powerful tool for influencing public opinion. Although space exploration is often portrayed as a realm of pure science, collaboration, and wonder, it has not been immune to deceptive communication strategies. From the earliest days of the space race through modern public–private partnerships, the space industry has experienced waves of misleading narratives and sensational claims. Some of these fabrications arise from understandable excitement or national pride, while others are deliberately orchestrated by governments, private entities, or conspiracy groups seeking strategic advantage or influence.

Blue Skies Space Founder and CEO Marcell Tessenyi tells us how the concept of collaborative access to data sets is transforming the scientific community. Learn why scientists are opting for a wide, collaborative approach instead of competing for observation time, and how it's revolutionizing space observations. #ScientistsFirst
