Something I hear often (from friends, family, and strangers alike) is that I should have money because we own a business and travel or we are always doing something. For those of you who may not know yet, my partner and I own a small candle business called No Coast Candle (www.nocoastcandle.com). With the holiday season quickly approaching and a lot of small and large businesses prepping to launch their seasonal products (we are too so be on the look out for that date!), I encourage everyone to support their local small businesses if they can. Only because they're a business owner, doesn't mean the company makes them a lot of money. My partner and I both work full time jobs on top of running No Coast. He works on average 65 hours a week (and has worked up to 118 hours in a week) and not only do I work a ft job, I also work a 2nd side gig. We both have some of our paychecks directly going into the business bank account to help float the business (especially during the slow season). So when you start shopping for fall and winter decor or for gifts this holiday season, please consider your local businesses. Yes, they may be more expensive than big box retailers but you will find better customer service and better quality products most of the time. I know a lot of other small business owners who have made the business their livelihoods and don't have the safety net of a fulltime job to fall back on if the company fails so every sale counts no matter how small. Even if you can't buy from them, share their business on social media or talk to friends and family about them. #SmallBusiness #IowaMade #NoCoastCandle

Here are some friendly reminders that may come in handy for you: - do some background checks first - things like their SSN, DOB, and forwarding address - align rent dues with their payday - understand the local property regulations - know your rights. - set rules like late fees and eviction grounds - always maintain your composure - be considerate yet firm on your policies Always find a balance to maintain your relationship with your tenants without harming yourself as their operator.
