'The criticality of minerals is not just about the mining of the minerals; it's about the applications of those minerals in the economy and this application depends on the kinds of technologies we pursue.' Our CEO, Arunabha Ghosh shared his insights at 'The Critical Minerals Summit: Enhancing Beneficiation and Processing Capabilities'. @Helen Beatty and I have written for @Mining Journal on some of the key considerations and elements of critical mineral recycling projects. Today's energy transition is moving away from a linear economy towards a circular economy, influenced not only by goals for net zero but also supply constraints and geopolitical tensions. Sustainable production and recycling of critical minerals, essential to supporting the technologies of the energy transition, will therefore increasingly play a central role in society and attract investment. The article can be accessed here (subscription required): https://lnkd.in/d7i-SB49 More information about recycling critical minerals can be read in our recent thought-leadership article, part of our wider Mining series 'Beneath the Surface': https://lnkd.in/dyQ-yNuD #criticalnminerals #mining #energytransition #netzero #ESG

I had such an inspiring chat with Aimee Boulanger at the IRMA Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance about improving the social and environmental impacts of the mining sector. IRMA is a standard for miners based on best practices already being implemented around the world. It allows companies to prove ethical behaviour, or understand what they can do better to align themselves with the requirements of their buyers. With the energy transition inflating demand for certain minerals, transparency is crucial. 8moApart from applications, the role of geopolitics in the discussion of critical minerals is required and is quite significant. Isn't it? For e.g. China’s dominant position in the business of critical minerals globally has increased the criticality of critical minerals.
