We often see conflict as a barrier to progress, but what if "good conflict" could help connect across divides? Amanda Ripley will lead remarks during our closing plenary, followed by a discussion with Wendy Feliz, Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Ali Noorani, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Bob Dold, Forbes Tate Partners, and Layla Zaidane, Future Caucus (formerly Millennial Action Project) on how funders can invest in rebuilding trust in democracy, renewing civic engagement, and building a shared commitment to an inclusive and thriving multiracial society. https://bit.ly/3PH8OKJ

Establishing racial justice within institutions and civil society is how we protect democracy in the 21st century. The democratic future we want requires that we redesign systems and practices now.
➡ ➡ Check out this recent conversation between Chief Network Weaver Julia Roig and Director for Race & Democracy Jarvis Williams as they reflect on the decision to create a new role and portfolio at Horizons to link the efforts of democracy promotion/protection/renewal and racial justice, and why we see the interconnections as essential to forging a path forward to our shared future as a country. 🤔 If you'd like to consult some other resources on this topic, you can also find a curated list of materials on our website: https://lnkd.in/et4fNb6R https://lnkd.in/e5nVKagA

Transactional solidarity is not enough. This country, as a democracy, really cannot expect to continue to be proud on the world stage, competitive in the global economy, or have a democracy that it can put forward as working in a multiracial society, if we don't invest in the people who are the future. We need transformative solidarity to bring us to a thriving multiracial democracy. https://lnkd.in/gjFchT3d

If you are aware that cities have been segregated by design, not by accident nor individual consumer choice...If you have read "Color of Law" and learned about the practices and policies that got us here.... And/or, especially, if you are searching for answers on what we can do to reverse the forces of inequity shaping our cities..... Then you HAVE to listen in to this conversation with Leah Rothstein, co-author of "Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law." It was such a treat to learn from the brilliant activist, scholar, and leader. Listen in! https://lnkd.in/gDpin4ne

As 2024’s National Reconciliation Week ends, we are deeply aware of the criticisms surrounding performative reconciliation actions. We're determined to ensure our efforts toward reconciliation are genuine and impactful. Our ongoing journey with our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is driven by intentional actions and measurable progress, rather than symbolic gestures. The last week has been a powerful reminder of why that approach is important. As we continue toward true reconciliation efforts, we strive to listen more, learn continuously, and leverage our platform to amplify First Nations voices, recognising the significant power businesses hold in shaping societal norms and justice. We do this in a variety of ways, including attending and promoting relevant events, providing all Cubies Arrilla Indigenous Consulting cultural competency training, partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suppliers, and encouraging deep conversations amongst our team (last week, our team used the Aretha Brown’s “Decolonise Your Self” ally resource cards to prompt important conversations – get them https://lnkd.in/gvdkj7m4). We know there is more we can do, and we’re committed to continuing to examine, diversify and improve the ways we work toward reconciliation. As we move forward, we invite our network to hold us accountable, engage with us in this critical conversation, and join us in making reconciliation a continuous commitment to justice and equity.

We want to live in a truly inclusive, multi-racial democracy. But to get there, we must repair the ongoing racial harms brought by slavery and its legacy. For too long, the dominant narrative around reparations has been controlled by white supremacists who aren’t interested in transformative institutional and cultural change. But despite their divisive and fear-based claims, the movement toward racial repair will benefit us all. Learn how philanthropists are using their funds to redefine the narrative on reparations: https://lnkd.in/gzjNe2Y7
