Research Centre for Creative Economies, Coventry University’s Post

What does sustainability really look like in practice? This is one of the key questions behind the Sustainable Flowers Research Project which held this brilliant event yesterday. Another example of the collaborative and engaged research projects in the Centre (if we do say so ourselves). More great work from David Bek and colleagues!

Yesterday a new booklet on sustainability in floriculture was launched at Coventry Cathedral! 🌸 This was all part of the Sustainable Flowers Research Project, which focuses on reducing plastic, packaging and waste to build a more sustainable cut-flower industry 💐 The day began with a warm welcome from Professor Nick Henry, Director of the Research Centre for Creative Economies, Coventry University (CCE), followed by insightful introductions to the booklet from Professor David Bek (also from CCE) and Dr. Jill Timms from University of Surrey. Attendees explored interactive demonstrations by experts such as The Bath Flower School, Farewell Flowers, Shane Connolly - the King's florist, Organic Blooms and Zinnia Floral Design, all showcasing their eco-friendly floral designs. The event also featured panel discussions including Dr. Anna Bogush from our Centre for Agroecology, Water & Resilience, Zara Taylor from Interflora UK & Ireland, Dr. Angela Coulton from Petal and Twig, and Johnny Young from JZ Flowers/Dutch Flower Group. The project brings together a range of other collaborators such as the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative, the British Floristry Association, Flowers from the Farm, Superflora and Bloom & Wild – all to sow the seeds for a greener floral future 🌷 Take a look at the stunning floral displays inside the Cathedral ⬇ #CovResearch
