🌞🏢 Innovative Sun Shading for Sustainable Building Design Protection from sunlight is one of the most crucial tools in the architect's arsenal for designing sustainable buildings. Effective sun shading not only prevents heat gain but also allows daylight to enter the building without obstructing the view. Mobile electric shading systems, like those used in the ThyssenKrupp Quarter designed by JSWD Architekten GmbH & Co. KG and Chaix & Morel et Associés, respond dynamically to the sun's path. This complex shading system not only mitigates excessive heat but also creates a unique and recognizable rhythm on the facade. While these advanced shading systems may involve higher initial investment and material costs, the long-term savings on cooling make them a worthwhile investment. The ThyssenKrupp Quarter's highly efficient sun protection system plays a key role in its overall appearance, with approximately 400,000 stainless steel lamellas oriented to optimize light redirection without blocking the view. But there's another vital lesson in these words: Rome was not built in a day and definitely not by 1 person alone! Achieving greatness requires time and a skilled, dedicated team. In the world of design, where we're constantly creating new retail and commercial spaces, this truth resonates deeply. Two profound forces in my life – family and architecture – converge in this moment, where the intimacy of motherhood contrasts against the geometric rigor of the built environment. Captured at Frankfurt International Airport, this image presents the delicate balance between personal and professional worlds, between nurturing life and nurturing space. The grid-like façade behind me, with its rhythmic precision and repetition, reflects a modernist order, framing the sky and evoking a sense of both containment and openness. It stands as a metaphor for how architecture organizes the chaos of existence, offering structure while allowing moments of tenderness and reflection to emerge.
