Can you believe Halloween was a month ago already? CPC Beacon Program at Pershing Junior High School hosted a haunted party to celebrate with over 100 participants from our afterschool program! It was a day filled with laughter, creativity, and plenty of surprises as students enjoyed a variety of activities. Participants dove into the fun with our famous Mummy Wrap, crafted creepy face masks, and bravely reached into the mystery box to guess the eerie objects inside. Beyond the fun, the event encouraged independence and allowed participants to choose their activities and embrace new experiences. They also made new friends, mingling and connecting as they navigated the different stations.

Do you see the elephant in the room? If you are a parent of school-age children, I know you are having a fantastic summer, but I want to say I see you. I SEE YOU: • Maneuvering the schedules before, during, & after work • Handling all the logistics • Trying to figure out what to provide kids in terms of infrastructure - Especially with middle and high school kids - Attempting to provide growth and independence without seeming negligent or helicopter → I bring this up because every interaction I am having these days with parents of school-age kids is met with this guilt. → Summer is hard because society teaches us that we should pretend to be stay-at-home parents with all sorts of freedom and liberties to make summer the dreamy blast we see on social media. → So, I tell you to keep going and say you are doing a good job. Our kids will remember more good than we realize. Nothing is more important than time. ✅ So choosing to be present in the time we do have is the priority. ENJOY the rest of your summer! How are you making time to be present with your children this summer?

SABBATH Building Upon the Rock In one of our year-end activities, I played the song “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock” as a message to our grade school pupils. I told them that now was the time for building, that they did not have to wait for junior high school, senior high school, or college. If they excelled in those times, it would be because they had learned well today. I told the young pupils that their life would be built upon what they had learned in these tender years. We start building when we are young. In 1986, a book titled All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten by Robert Fulghum became popular. Among the things he wrote in the book were: “Share everything. Play fair. Don’t hit people. Put things back where you found them. Clean up your own mess. Don’t take things that aren’t yours. Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody. Wash your hands before you eat. Take a nap every afternoon. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together. Be aware of wonder. Goldfish and hamster and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup—they all die. So do we. And then remember . . . the biggest word of all—look.” To all these, I added another word: pray. In the future, when they are already adults, this is one of the things they will go back to over and over again: when they recited their prayers before they went to bed, when they prayed at school assembly, when they visited the Lord in the church. These faith experiences will make them stronger. They will be like the wise man who built his house upon the rock. Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB Reflection Questions: What are you doing to build your life on solid rock? How do you strengthen your faith? Lord, let me listen to Your words and act on them. Amen. Today, I pray for: ____________________________________

Forcing moms to plan months or even a year in advance for their children's activities (or miss out!) just adds more stress to a mom's sense of overload that the insanity never ends. We've got to do better for each other. The professional woman who has a village of other mothers around her can take a step back and listen to her sisters tell her: You solve unbelievably complex problems in your career. You'll get past this one. And getting your kids into the perfect ____ (insert your preferred camp, preschool, club, sport, college) does not define their future success or your success as a parent. If you need a little child care help in that village, MomSub is there to find the right weekly sitter for you. No Subscription Fees. No Placement Fees (if MomSub manages your weekly care). Just affordable, trusted, reliable care. #summercamp #kidsactivities #childcare #kidsenrichment #momlife #momoverwhelm #workingmom #nanny #sitter #childcareprovider

I worked as a camp professional for 6+ years, and am grateful for this formative part of my life. Serving at camp was a life-changing experience — one that simultaneously humbled and stretched me into growth trajectories that I never knew I needed. I would 100% recommend camp to any and all people who wish to serve youth and families, while enhancing their professional and personal development. ✨I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read and agree with the key points about character development: ✨Key terms that appeared about how camps describe and communicate character to stakeholders include: ✨ community, responsibility, leadership, respect, confidence, help, caring, honesty, independence, growth, courage, kindness, resilience, relationships, and empathy
In our continued celebration in support of the Character at Camp initiative, we’re taking a deeper dive into the impact of character at camp and on the families camps serve. https://bit.ly/3J47XQU

Real dads are always there for their kids, offering support and love every step of the way. They are present through the highs and lows, providing guidance and a sense of security. These fathers take an active role in their children's lives, helping them grow and develop with encouragement and care. True fatherhood goes beyond biological ties; it’s about being a reliable source of support and inspiration. This is what a healthy father and daughter relationship looks like, and it’s something to celebrate, especially during Pride Month. Be like him 👇🏼
