Australian Medical Association (Victoria) President Dr Jill Tomlinson today called on the Federal Government to invest more into Medicare. "Preventative and primary health care, delivered by general practice, is why Australia has one of the world's best health care systems - and that's what we need to fight to maintain," she said. https://lnkd.in/gqZBiMbJ Harry Hemley, MOB A/Professor Magdalena Simonis AM Vahid Masoumi Adj Prof Karen Price Bernard Shiu Simon Judkins Geoffrey Toogood Danielle McMullen Nick Yim Australian Medical Association Steve Robson Julian Rait

The nonsense of political bread and circuses has gone on long enough. As has been said elsewhere. Words are cheap. It’s time for the rubber to hit the road. Actually, long past time. General Practice patients need action on their Medicare rebates now.

Well done Jill. General Practice is the "champion" of medicare. Those working mum's and dad's who pay the taxes, to finance our welfare system, build our roads and maintain our healthcare system, have been long neglected by double talking politicians of all persuasions. I heard it said recently that 500,000 Australians did not attend their doctor last year because " they couldn't afford too!" It's time to " show us the money! "

Well done Jill. We need strong, consistent and ongoing advocacy for general practice. Allowing pharmacists to prescribe and dispense is a bad idea. Government needs to help general practice to increase capacity and quality of care, through embracing technological advancements and incorporating nurse practitioners into the clinical team.

Great point! Prevention should be the most important aspect of medicine, and it's well said that General Practitioners are in the best position to deliver preventive care.
