✨NEW PUBLICATION ALERT✨ 🔸Our wonderful consultant Lauren Russell is one of the authors of the Postgraduate Researcher Admissions Report, which presents a summary of the findings from a survey on PGR admissions practices in UK Higher Education institutions that was carried out as part of the Equity in Doctoral Education through Partnership and Innovation programme (The EDEPI Project). 🔸This report uncovers 10 barriers in the PGR admissions process for individuals who were from racially minoritised groups. One key barrier identified was the over-reliance on applicants' Master's degrees and degree-awarding institution as the main assessment criteria; practice that perpetuates systemic inequities rooted in limited access to higher-tariff universities, undergraduate attainment gaps, and unequal opportunities for funding. 🔸The following report sets out recommendations for groundwork and practical action to address underrepresentation of people from racially minoritised groups in the doctoral population, and has resulted in the EDEPI Competency-Based Admissions Framework and Question Bank, which is designed as a tool to support inclusive PGR selection processes: https://lnkd.in/dJCDTR_5 📖Have a read of the report below 👇🏾 #DoctoralEducation #Research #RacialEquity 🧡

This is not something I would normally share on LinkedIn but I think it's important to share because of the impact it will have on the medical students I work with. Monash University have decided not to renew the contracts of six professional staff members employed at the Bendigo and Warragul campuses of Monash Rural Health. This will diminish the support available to medical students undertaking rural placements, compromising their placement experiences. Some of my colleagues have started a petition calling for Monash University to 1) Reinstate the six staff members who have been advised that their contracts will not be renewed at the end of 2024; 2) Engage in a consultation process with the respective designated work groups to understand the need for these roles and the impact any changes will have; 3) Give all staff secure, ongoing employment. If you agree with this please consider signing the petition: https://chng.it/ygMBgP8Lxn

A KEY LESSON for all healthcare universities to develop a supportive framework for clinical practitioners to. academics! Just read a fantastic paper by Dr Sharon Black on experiences of early career academics from registered health and social care professions that found, 'A lack of preparedness for the role as a new academic contribute to perceptions of a higher workload'. Hope @deansofcouncil takes this as debate in future meets! https://lnkd.in/esanQctQ

Honestly, this degree wasn't meant to take this long 😑 You have been tussling with your research component for so long, you have exhausted every extension and appeal that the university has. Seriously, are you registered for a medical degree or are you registered for research ? 🤔 People around you are quietly asking themselves. You might not be that harsh on yourself, but you need to wrap this up and stop giving your money to that university 💀 In fact, on behalf of everyone who wants to pursue a Postgrad degree, don't give research a bad name 😜 Speak to our research team and they will identify what the issue is + offer you solutions that will actually move the needle. #Postgraduate #ResearchCoach #ThesisHelp

Grateful for the recognition in this article, which illuminates my leadership journey. A HUGE thanks to the incredibly talented Kade Greenland at Khorus for sharing my story. Each career move has been deliberate, driven by a commitment to understanding the broad spectrum of #publichealth. From overcoming early barriers to navigating discouragement, my journey has been a testament to perseverance. These experiences have fortified my belief in the importance of embracing challenges to reach one's fullest potential. As a #systemsthinker, I've intentionally explored various facets of health to gain a comprehensive perspective. This journey has equipped me with a nuanced understanding of how diverse factors intersect to shape population health outcomes. Now, as I focus on addressing complex health-related challenges, I draw upon this multidimensional perspective. This article highlights the value of diverse experiences and perspectives in tackling pressing public health issues. Excited for the opportunities ahead, and eager to leverage my unique perspective to drive positive change.
