As part of the #SUSTAINproject, we have published 3 insightful new sector-focused case study documents. They highlight practical insights into how companies are working to identify and assess their nature-related issues and the essential role these sectors play in contributing to the global goal for nature. It highlights the current landscape, potential scale, market trends, and barriers to development in Europe. 🌱 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞: Over 1,364 NBS projects across the EU, dominated by public funding. Only 3% of projects report significant private sector financing. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬: Key challenges include long investment horizons, high project costs, and regulatory uncertainties. Advancing sustainability in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) is critical for a greener future. At the Second Annual Conference of the OECD Platform on Financing SMEs for Sustainability in Paris, ten key insights were identified to promote sustainability in energy, transportation, water, air & environment, buildings, manufacturing, agriculture & forestry, and recycling & waste management. Despite progress made, challenges persist in various sectors. Regulators and policymakers face a significant lack of impact data, and financial institutions confront obstacles such as the absence of robust methodologies for assessing green performance. SMEs also face issues such as unclear routes towards environmental sustainability and limitations in collateral and credit history. However, the conference emphasized the need for a collaborative ecosystem that integrates technology providers, financial entities, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders to achieve sustainable progress. This approach fosters collaboration and innovation, ultimately promoting a scalable and sustainable transformation across SMEs globally.
