The 2nd Regional Stakeholders Forum on Resource Recovery and Reuse in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus for a Low-Carbon Economy which will be held in Malta on May the 14th, 2024 aims at exploring the dynamic intersection of resource recovery and reuse within the framework of a the WEF-Nexus implementation into practice. It will be hosted by EWA, Water and Energy Agency, Government of Malta. Focused on the interconnections between water, energy, and food systems, this session seeks to elucidate how a holistic approach can significantly advance the EU green agenda and contribute to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). #SUERFpolicybrief “Making the grass greener: the role of firms’ financial and managerial capacity in paving the way to the green transition” by Hélia Costa (OECD - OCDE), Lilas Demmou (OECD), Guido Franco (OECD), and Stefan Lamp (Toulouse School of Economics) Despite ambitious carbon reduction targets set by policymakers worldwide, current investments fall well short of the net-zero emissions scenario. Funding: NDCs Fulfillment & Effective Economic Transition Cash is king remains a universal truth including when the topic is sustainability. If our NDCs (and NBSAPs) are not investable, we will hardly fulfill them, making our economic transition unfeasible. We need our Brazilian financial system on the table to make sure funding will be available and directed to transition projects. That is why I was impressed with the launch of the Brazilian Investment Platform for Climate and Ecological Transformation (BIP), aimed at boosting transition to low carbon economy, sustainable resource use, with positive impacts to quality of life. Led by the Ministry of Finance (Ministério da Fazenda), in collaboration with the Ministries of Environment and Climate Change (Ministério do Meio Ambiente e Mudança do Clima), Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (Ministério do Desenvolvimento Indústria e Comércio Exterior), and Mines and Energy (MME), the Platform supports the Ecological Transformation Plan and climate transition and adaptation plans in key sectors. The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will serve as the Secretariat, managing daily operations. Nature based solutions provide some of the most promising pathways to improve both the sustainability and the resilience of communities worldwide. When implemented well, these solutions can deliver outcomes on par with traditional infrastructure while increasing biodiversity, cleaning our air and water, cooling our cities, and providing access to nature that has been proven to improve the mental health of people interacting with these systems. Arcadis has tools that can help communities quantify these benefits and help clients weigh the pros and cons of different approaches to address the challenges we face. By working with nature, we can accelerate the transition to a world that is more sustainable, resilient, and just.

Auden Clean water and sanitation are fundamental to life, health, and development, yet 2 billion people still lack access to safe drinking water, and 3.6 billion are without proper sanitation. Part of our experience in SDG 6 includes collaborating on the Green Earth Impact Fund, initiated by the Ministry of Finance, Luxembourg focused on water conservation, and the ICFA - International Climate Finance Accelerator in Luxembourg, a unique multi-year program that accelerates emerging fund managers focusing on key areas within climate action, including water and sanitation. These initiatives are making a difference, but with over $100 billion needed annually, much more is required to achieve SDG 6 by 2030.
