A new study using multi-scale lidar technology revealed that miombo woodlands in Mozambique store 1.5 to 2.2 times more carbon than previously estimated. "The implications of these findings reverberate across science, policy, finance, and business. If our current understanding of the carbon stored in nature is potentially biased downwards, this will lead to the undervaluation of forest protection and restoration efforts, hindering progress towards global climate goals."-Sylvera #groundbreakingresearch #carbon #technology #conservation #forestprotection #CTA #data Javier Ruiz-Ramos Christopher Philipson Albert Gallon de Aguiar Juan Chang Dr. Leonardo Sáenz Sunarto Sunarto https://lnkd.in/g8utKAzK

The Impact of Remote Sensing Technologies on Environmental Monitoring 🌍📡 Remote sensing technologies have revolutionized environmental monitoring by offering advanced tools to observe and analyze natural systems remotely. Using sensors on satellites 🛰️, aircraft ✈️, or drones 🚁, these technologies collect high-resolution data, enabling precise monitoring of vegetation health 🌱, water quality 💧, land use, and more. Real-time monitoring helps detect natural disasters like floods 🌊 and wildfires 🔥, while global coverage allows observation of remote areas, including polar ice caps ❄️ and rainforests 🌳. Remote sensing is also crucial for climate change research 🌡️, tracking variables like atmospheric carbon dioxide and sea surface temperatures 🌊. It supports biodiversity conservation by detecting habitat loss and monitoring species distribution 🦋🐾. Integrated with GIS and other analytical tools 🖥️, remote sensing enhances environmental modeling and sustainable development strategies. Although expensive to develop 💸, it reduces fieldwork costs over time and informs environmental policies, ensuring more effective conservation and disaster response efforts. #remoterensing #environmentalmonitoring #climatechange #biodiversity #sustainability #GIS #conservation #disasterresponse #environmentaltechnology #sustainability #sustainabilityupdate #rhetort

🌊 Protecting Our Oceans from Space: The Future of Maritime Intelligence Our oceans cover over 70% of the Earth's surface, yet they remain one of the least understood and most vulnerable ecosystems. Earth observation satellites, powered by cutting-edge AI, are transforming how we monitor, protect, and sustain marine environments. At Ubotica, we’re harnessing the power of real-time earth observation to address critical maritime challenges: 🔹 Monitoring Marine Health Satellites provide unparalleled insights into ocean ecosystems, tracking harmful algal blooms, monitoring water quality, and assessing the impact of climate change on coral reefs and marine biodiversity. Real-time data empowers conservationists to take swift action to protect these vital ecosystems. 🔹 Detecting Illegal Fishing and Maritime Threats Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing depletes fish stocks and disrupts marine ecosystems, costing the global economy billions each year. Ubotica’s SPACE:AI enables autonomous AI-driven satellites which enhance maritime domain awareness by identifying dark vessels and suspicious activities in real time, enabling authorities to respond faster and more effectively. 🔹 Improving Maritime Safety Dynamic retasking allows satellites to seamlessly switch between missions, such as monitoring marine weather, detecting oil spills, and aiding in search-and-rescue operations. This flexibility maximises satellite utilisation while addressing urgent maritime safety concerns. 🔹 Empowering Sustainability Initiatives With actionable insights from space, stakeholders can develop more sustainable practices, from optimising shipping routes to reducing pollution. By equipping satellites with SPACE:AI, we help unlock innovative solutions for preserving our oceans. The oceans are vital to life on Earth, and with smarter satellites, we’re unlocking new ways to protect and sustain them for future generations. Let’s work together to safeguard these critical resources. 🌍 #MarineHealth #MaritimeSecurity #SatelliteInnovation #Sustainability #SPACEAI
