As winter approaches with full force, it’s a good time to focus on workplace safety in extreme temperatures. OSHA guidelines for heat and cold stress safety highlight the risks and precautions we should prioritize to protect ourselves and our teams. When working in cold environments, here are some key takeaways: ✔️ Wind chill matters – Even temperatures above freezing can pose risks when combined with wind and moisture. ✔️ Layer up wisely – Wear moisture-wicking inner layers, insulating middle layers, and windproof outer layers. ✔️ Watch for signs – Symptoms like shivering, numbness, and fatigue can signal cold stress, hypothermia, or frostbite. ✔️ Stay prepared – Frequent breaks in warm, dry shelters and proper hydration can prevent cold-related injuries. Let’s also remember OSHA’s emphasis on the buddy system to recognize danger signs in coworkers and training workers to manage cold stress effectively. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Together, let’s create a workplace where extreme conditions don’t lead to extreme consequences. #SafetyFirst #OSHA #WinterWorkplaceSafety #HeatAndColdStress

This morning was a cold one..... It was another reminder that winter is coming, and with it comes cold weather hazards. From icy walkways to power outages from personal heaters, winter creates challenges that impact your workplace. However, we can prevent accidents by shaking off complacency and actively engaging in safety efforts. Encourage your team to think beyond the standard safety reminders. Ask employees to predict where cold-weather injuries might occur, or rank hazards based on their relevance to your workplace. Engage them by discussing how they would explain winter safety to their family. Making these discussions interactive, helps employees take ownership of their safety. Also, take a 24/7 approach to safety. Talk to your team about how winter hazards outside of work can affect their health and well-being. Slips, falls, and other injuries don’t just impact the job—they can mean missed family events and reduced quality of life. After you’ve had these discussions, keep them going! Regularly check in with employees and find new angles to address cold-weather hazards. Consistency is key to ensuring that winter safety becomes a season-long priority. Remember, winter safety isn’t just about preventing workplace injuries—it’s about protecting your team’s overall well-being. #OnSiteOnTimeOnPurpose #BusinessContinuityPlan #DesignOrReview #StaffingContingencies #ContingencyPlan #WinterSafety #WorkplaceSafety #EmployeeEngagement #StaySafe #UpdateInclementWeatherPolicy #ReviewThermostatSettings #DisasterRecoveryPlan #CrisisManagementPlan #OccupationalCompliance #OccHealth #OccMed #SME
