On the day that the government unveiled proposals for the revised #NPPF, the Cratus team was delighted to be in Parliament with the cream of the pro-development world, welcoming the launch of three reports by the Centre for Cities on delivering the housing that the country so desperately needs. The reception was sponsored by Dan Tomlinson MP, and well attended by many of the new generation of MPs.

"The test will be whether we finally transition to a planning system that is simpler, quicker, more efficient and easier to use, resulting in high-quality development.." Following the Prime Minister's confirmation of the government's priorities today, and ahead of the updated NPPF expected before Christmas, Partner and Head of Central London Planning Guy Bransby talks in the current edition of NLA's New London Quarterly about changes to the planning system that would support housing delivery and encourage LPAs to give significant weight to new, expanded, or upgraded public infrastructure to justify development. 🔒 https://lnkd.in/eqzk_guV #MEPlanning #LPA #NPPF

Ministerial response to the current debate in parliament on matters pertaining budget utilisation, DSIP, PSIP and PIP funding distribution to provinces and districts, lacks substance and quality. We expect our national leaders to conduct themselves with honor, dignity and respect. It's embarrassing and scary, the way certain government MPs carried themselves on the floor on Parliament with their mediocrity. #png #parliamentdebate

Finally, 2024-25 State and Territory nomination allocations are out for FY 2024-25 Difficult to understand the stand of the QLD government for a state that is so big and can use 491 programs greatly to support regional businesses and communities. Smaller states like ACT/Tasmania are well positioned with good numbers to support the skills state economies need. Let's see if we can get a balanced approach from each state instead of focusing on only certain industries for their state programs. #SkilledMigration #190Visaprogram #491Visaprogram

Lichfields UK has published a series of blogs and information on the Government's eight-week consultation on national policy and other reforms. One area I am particularly interested in is the support for renewable energy and low carbon energy sources - this is to be beefed up, with para 161 (b) requiring LPAs to identify suitable areas for development, rather than just consider identifying such areas. This position is further strengthened by the introduction of “significant weight” for the contribution of renewable and low carbon developments towards renewable energy generation and a broader net zero future. This is a great step for renewable energy and one which brings the sector more in line with other more 'traditional' sectors. I have commented on this previously and the wider opportunities for energy in the UK. Watch out for further thoughts and get in touch to share your views. #nationalpolicy #NPPF #netzero #renewableenergy https://lnkd.in/g-8XjndJ

UK CONSTITUTIONAL CLARITY? 👍 For what it’s worth, I fully support the PM’s announcement yesterday (5/9/24) regarding the latest machinery of government changes: 📄 "Responsibility for Union and devolution policy across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will move from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to the Cabinet Office. This change will support cross-government coordination and engagement with the devolved governments, led by the Chancellor for the Duchy of Lancaster [Pat McFadden] as Minister for Intergovernmental Relations. Responsibility for devolution policy in England and engagement with Mayors and local government will remain with the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government [Angela Rayner]. This change is effective immediately." 💭 I believe this neat shift from MHCLG helps clarify roles: positioning the PM as leader of the entire UK, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster as the key contact with the devolved governments (reflecting the many UK-wide responsibilities of the Cabinet Office) - and the Deputy PM as the de facto primary lead for England (given that the MHCLG's remit does not extend beyond England). ☑ The PM's statement sets clearer lines of responsibility across the UK’s evolving governance structure. Or, as the EU might frame it, subsidiarity? https://lnkd.in/ebCpMiVN #ukgovernment #devolvedgovernments #cabinetoffice #MHCLG #ukconstitution #ifg #no10 #politics #politicalhistory

The RTPI has proposed a clear "route map" to government to help Local Authorities take full advantage of strategic plans as soon as possible and to keep making local plans while they are introduced. The RTPI's route map proposals suggest a clear outline of where each local authority fits into the government’s direction of travel on strategic planning and national policy reforms, providing clarity and certainty through the transition. It would help them continue producing local plans, delivering housing targets and easing the transition to England-wide strategic planning. The best time to start growing this timber was 30 years ago, the next best time is now. Essential that Government agencies develop integrated and evidence based land use policies. Appreciate that this will be a radical change compared with recent decades.
“We want you to come to us and help us deliver on our missions.” That’s what Mike Reader MP – Member of Parliament for Northampton South had to say at our expert panel event at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool this week, commenting on the importance of industry collaboration with Government to resolve the UK housing crisis, stating “The Government is going to listen.” To find out more about the event and the other panellists’ perspectives head to: https://lnkd.in/eV98ZhM3 #Lab24
