Here's a brief guide on how to do it, using a vulnerable login page on the Vulnweb website for testing purposes: 1. Setup Wireshark: Ensure Wireshark is installed on your system. It's available for Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. Launch Wireshark with administrative privileges to capture all network traffic. 2. Select Network Interface: Choose the network interface through which you'll capture traffic. Typically, this would be your Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. 3. Start Capture: Click on the "Start" button in Wireshark to begin capturing packets. 4. Navigate to Login Page: Open a web browser and visit the Vulnweb login page. Enter some test credentials (e.g., username: test user, password: test password). 5. Stop Capture: After submitting the login form, return to Wireshark and stop the packet capture by clicking the "Stop" button. 6. Filter Traffic: To narrow down the captured packets, use a display filter. You can filter HTTP traffic by typing "http" in the display filter box. 7. Analyze Packets: Look through the captured packets for any containing HTTP POST requests. These packets often contain form data, including usernames and passwords. 8. Inspect Packet Contents: Examine the details of the captured packets to find the POST request containing the login credentials. You may need to expand packet details to view the payload. 9. Locate Credentials: Search within the packet payload for the username and password fields. They'll typically be in plain text, especially if the website doesn't use encryption (HTTP instead of HTTPS). 10. Extract Credentials: Once you've located the credentials, you can extract them from the packet for further analysis. It's important to note that capturing credentials in this manner may be illegal and unethical if done without proper authorization. 🎯 Project Milestone: DoS Attack Detection System Completed! 🎯 Thrilled to announce that I’ve successfully completed my DoS Attack Detection project as part of my internship at HCL! 💻🔐 This project challenged me to: ✨ Develop an efficient Denial of Service attack detection system ✨ Build and execute the system on Linux OS 🔧 Tackling this project from scratch, with zero prior knowledge of DoS attack detection and Linux, has been an incredible learning journey in cybersecurity! 🔍 Key Learnings & Tools Used: C Programming: Developed an understanding of algorithms for detecting network anomalies and potential DoS attacks. Linux Environment: Gained hands-on experience with terminal commands, compiling code, and debugging in a Linux setup.
