It’s #ChildSafetyWeek 🦺 As teachers, a fundamental part of our job is educating our pupils about various safety risks so that they are equipped to keep themselves safe. Here are some ways to promote good safety practices in your setting: 🦺 Begin with the basics: look left and right before crossing etc. 🦺 Use appropriate language and resources depending on the child's age. 🦺 Be a consistent role model and be aware that children often mirror our behaviour. 🦺 Encourage conversation and communication around safety in your setting. 🦺 Enable learning through hands-on activities and role-play. What a brilliant initiative! 👏🏼 Every ECEC approved provider would benefit from undertaking this training - for the sake of children in their care and as a basis for strategic improvement. Ultimately, a child safe organisation will be a successful organisation. Under s167 of the National Law, an “approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that every reasonable precaution is taken to protect children being educated and cared for by the service from harm and from any hazard likely to cause injury in their care” or they face a statutory penalty. Undertaking training would be seen by any regulator as a positive, active and reasonable step to fostering a child safe organisation. Parents will feel more confident leaving their littlest loves with an organisation who is demonstrably committed to child safety. It’s a no-brainer. #ecec #childsafe #childsafetyprinciples #ececinvestigations #earlychildhoodeducationandcare #reportableconduct #safeguarding #safeguardingchildren #ecsnationallaw #strategicimprovement #ececcompliance #compliance

Is safeguarding keeping you up at night? 🤔 We get it! Keeping learners safe is a huge responsibility. It can seem daunting and a minefield of what to implement for the most vulnerable learners. So what can we integrate to enhance safeguarding resources? ✅ Empower learners to speak up. Provide clear and accessible reporting channels, and ensure learners know they will be listened to and supported. ✅ Provide unwavering support. Offer ongoing support from a dedicated team and implement resources to help them navigate challenging situations. ✅ Foster a culture of prevention. Invest in proactive measures like educational programs and awareness campaigns to address potential safeguarding issues before they arise. This creates a safer and more positive learning environment for everyone. Want to breathe a little easier knowing your learners are supported? Personal Safety & Situational Awareness for youngsters I’ve lost count of the number of people that have said great idea Mick, (it’s not an idea, it’s something the youngsters need), let’s get it done at our school, then nothing, so the kids remain vulnerable. I’m guessing the education system is waiting for a youngster to get stabbed, or mugged or worse killed before they actually do something. What a sad society we live in that those that can make a difference, actually don’t, to the detriment of all the youngsters under their care. The streets of the UK are changing and not for the better, most kids feel safe at their place of education, it’s getting there and back where they feel unsafe, even on public transport. To cater for youngsters especially girls, Hawkesandco is a unique father and daughter training team, helping to keep youngsters safe. Situational awareness can literally save your life. #youngsters #vawg #personalsafety #Situationalawareness #breakaway #keepingyousafe

Grateful to have conducted a workshop on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act with a group of dedicated educators. It was an insightful session where teachers shared valuable inputs and experiences, openly discussing real-life scenarios and the crucial role they play in ensuring child safety. Addressing POCSO at the school level is essential in fostering a safe and supportive environment where children can learn and grow without fear. Teachers are often the first line of defense and play a vital role in identifying, reporting, and preventing potential risks. By equipping school staff with the knowledge and resources needed to handle these sensitive situations, we are building a foundation of trust, awareness, and protection that extends beyond the classroom.
