Every second counts when it comes to protecting our children. African Response's rapid polling tools like MzansiVoice give us the power to understand urgent needs and act decisively. The recent Children's Day poll highlighted critical concerns around violence, mental health, and legal protection. Let's use these insights to drive immediate policy changes and create a safer future for South Africa's children and youth. #ChildrensRights #MzansiVoice #ActNow #AfricanResponse
Children's Day, a day dedicated to honouring and celebrating our youngest generation is held on the first Saturday of November. But in light of the recent tragic deaths of children in Gauteng and the Eastern Cape due to suspected poisoning from food bought at Spaza shops, this year's Children's Day takes on a renewed sense of urgency. Our recent poll on our MzansiVoice panel revealed that many South Africans are generally aware of critical issues facing children. This awareness can drive support for programmes addressing these urgent needs. Children's Day is a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and promote children's rights. #ChildrensDay #SouthAfrica #ChildrensRights #Research #MzansiVoice #AfricanResponse

Today we mark the European Day Against Trafficking in Human Beings, and it's one more opportunity to call everyone in standing against human trafficking and child trafficking. There is no excuse, and there are evidence, knowledge and resources to efficiently tackle the issue. In a today event at the Parliament, besides the important measures across Prevention, Protection, Prosecution and Partnerships, I also highlighted the need for: ➡️ child friendly procedures, when interviewing, at forensic, and at all stages to avoid (re)traumatization of children. Improved legislation ensuring it's implementation, ➡️ qualitative protection and rehabilitation services available at all stages during the trial, pre and post. Trained professionals and institutions. ➡️ combating negative social norms and stereotypes to end the cycle of violence, including trafficking. Children must be safe in all environments, at home, at school, in the community or online. Is their right and our shared responsibility.
✨ On the European Day Against Trafficking in Human Beings, Anna Riatti, Representative of UNICEF in Romania, emphasizes the urgent need to protect children from violence and abuse. As she states: "Every child has the right to a life free from violence, exploitation, and abuse. Preventing and addressing child trafficking is a shared responsibility under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Children must be safe in all environments – at home, in school, in the community, and online. We must intensify our efforts to prevent, protect, and respond to child trafficking, so every child can fully experience their right to a safe and dignified childhood. This is a goal we must all work tirelessly to achieve." 🤝 We are grateful to UNICEF for their dedicated partnership in preventing child trafficking and we are committed to continuing our close collaboration to ensure a safer future for children. #StopChildTrafficking #EuropeanDayAgainstTrafficking #eLiberare #Partnerships #ChildRights @UNICEF

📢CEFMU is a grave violation of children’s rights, exposing them to violence, limiting education, and depriving them of a safe childhood. On this #WorldsChildrensDay, we reflect on the First Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children #EVAC (Bogotá, Colombia, November 2024). The conference brought together world leaders, civil society, and child advocates to drive change. Key lessons learnt: ➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀: Ending child marriage must be part of global strategies to eliminate violence against children. ➡️ 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹: Governments, donors, grassroots CSOs, and youth-led organisations must work together to protect children. ➡️ 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: These groups are on the front lines, addressing root causes and connecting children with critical services. ➡️ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Governments have made over 120 pledges to end violence. Accountability and financial investment are non-negotiable to ensure lasting impact. Ending child marriage is achievable if we act with urgency, unity, and accountability. Let’s work together to protect children’s futures. 💡 What role can your organisation play in this effort? Share your ideas and join the movement to end violence against children. 👉 Learn more about our reflections at EVAC by reading our blog: https://lnkd.in/eSJ8ASgd #EndChildMarriage #EndViolenceAgainstChildren #HumanRights

Following our joint successful advocacy on the revised EU Anti-Trafficking Directive, Hope and Homes for Children together with our partners Lumos, Eurochild, Missing Children Europe, European Disability Forum, ECPAT International, Child Identity Protection, World Without Orphans Europe, Child Helpline International, International Social Service, Romania Without Orphans Alliance, Tzuby’s Kids and Tearfund Ireland, have put together a paper with recommendations for the Directive implementation. In these recommendations, we call on the European Commission and the governments of the EU Member States to ensure that the rights and best interest of the child victims of trafficking, including those coming from institutions, are protected and adequate measures are taken to ensure their recovery and wellbeing. These should include meaningful engagement of child-victims on any decision concerning their lives and close collaboration with relevant civil society actors. https://lnkd.in/emw-5cTd #ChildProtection #EUAdvocacy

✨️On the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, The Soina Foundation stands in solidarity with children who have suffered from violence and conflict. We highlight the urgent need to protect and support these vulnerable children, sharing their stories to raise awareness about the scale and impact of this issue. ✅️We advocate for stronger protections and support systems, calling for international and local policies that safeguard children's rights and provide resources for their recovery and growth. Ensuring access to quality education and mental health services is crucial for helping these children heal and build a brighter future. We urge #communities, #governments, and international organizations to take collective responsibility in creating safe environments where children can thrive. Finally, we recognize the #resilience and potential of children, even those who have been victims of aggression. By #empowering these #children through #education📚 and support, we enable them to become leaders and advocates for peace. Together, let us commit to protecting and uplifting the voices of innocent children who have been victims of aggression, ensuring a safer and more equitable world for all. #thesoinafoundation

#AccessToJustice for #children is not only a specific human right, it is also a crucial way to uphold all the other rights that should be guaranteed for every child, from access to health care and education to protection from violence. Children who are already disadvantaged are far more likely than other children to have their rights violated. But they are also far less likely to seek – or find – support from the justice system. UNICEF is committed to securing equitable access to justice for all children, whether they are offenders, victims, witnesses or children claiming their rights to services. 👩👧 Accompanied children on the move need our awareness and attention just as much as unaccompanied ones. Yet, they often receive even less support because many, including authorities, assume they are automatically protected when accompanied by their parents. This assumption creates a huge gap in the protection system. It’s crucial to recognise that these accompanied children and their mothers also need protection, with their rights being fully secured. 🛑 Let’s stop leaving them to live in the shadows. We invite you to explore our report: "In the Shadows: Accompanied Children On the Move and Their Mothers in Greece - Unveiling Their Struggles", where we reveal the harsh realities faced by these children. You can access the full report below or through the link in our bio. 📄👇 https://lnkd.in/dUUhikBs Your continued support is vital in breaking this cycle and giving a voice to those living in the shadows. 🌟 #ChildRights #AccompaniedChildren #RefugeeSupport #ProtectChildren #HumanRights
