The past weekend was the first DGTL festival of the year, in Amsterdam. Last year this time we (HyperCulture.nl) were commissioned by Bravoure to create the key visual and an array of visual assets for the DGTL 2024 festivals. The theme for 2024 is 'Synergy' — "The combined power of the collective.
An exchange of energy, a mutual participation in a moment of liminality." After an extensive research and development phase we landed on a solution that felt like serendipity.

How to turn a farm into the world's greatest music festival?
Of course, it demands a huge amount of money, people and efforts. But the return is absolutely worthy, for the producers, the sponsors and specially for those who build this event or get the ticket to enjoy it.
From the perspective of a music lover, I personally think that a festival is a celebration of life for many reasons, starting from the intense emotions and the life-changing experience that it can be.
But also because a festival is also a great opportunity for people who:
- Build the infrastructure.
- Prepare the food and deliver the drinks.
- Provide security for musicians, technicians and festival goers.
- Offer transportation and accomodation, among other services.
This video shows how the Glastonbury festival ("Glasto") is built in 26 days, and also part of its history, from the first edition in 1970 as the "Pop Folk & Blues" festival with nearly 1000 attendants, until today, with over 400 workers and 210.000 attendants.
I have not attended many festivals, but I do follow them and dream with enjoying some ones with my kids.

⚽️🎸 Concerts, festivals, and sports have always been part of the summer agenda. But how do these activities address #Sustainability?
♻️ More #SustainableEvents appear to be fostering the adoption of a new norm, establishing new benchmarks for minimizing #EnvironmentalImpact, and advancing green practices.
⏩ Check out how major sports tournaments such as EURO 2024 and innovative music tours by bands like Coldplay demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through eco-friendly stadiums, sustainable transportation, and waste reduction initiatives 💡🌍.
We cannot help but agree that this commitment inspires more event organizers to start making significant strides towards a #GreenFuture.

Earlier this year, London’s O2 Arena held its first ‘carbon-removed’ events – four concerts by British band The 1975. Now it has revealed how they went.
More than 545 tonnes of residual carbon were extracted and removed across the four nights: “the equivalent yearly electricity usage of 395 average homes,” according to the venue’s owner AEG Europe.
One of the findings from the pilot was that 75.7% of emissions came from fan travel, with the carbon-removal costs for that handled partly by a 90p addition to the price of tickets for the gigs.
The O2 worked with carbon-removal firm CUR8 and sustainable events organisation A Greener Future (AGF) on the pilot.

The scorching summer heat is a time to recharge batteries, bring in new perspectives and #leave#comfort#zones. The latter is essential for growth.
This year, for the first time, I participated at the #Sziget music festival for the entire 6-day-duration. Why was it stepping out of my comfort zone?
#1. The age group between 20-30 represent 90% of the festivalgoers and most people don’t attend events where their age group is considered fringe.
#2. I went to the festival without knowing the artists. Obviously when I work, I have absolutely no time to keep up with the names and styles of bands. It was thus a perfect occasion to learn about Stormzy, Raye, Halsey, Aurora or Fred again and decide what I like to listen to.
#3. Sziget is a big island in the middle of the Danube; crossing it multiple times a day to watch a show meant a 15-km-walk each day. My bet is that it’s one of the most enjoyable ways getting into shape at speed of light.
#4. Getting the feel for GenZ was really interesting. My impression was that GenZ is a digitally expressive, face-to-face shy, respectful generation. I actually felt at ease surrounded by 450.000 of them during Sziget.
#5. It was refreshing doing something so utterly different than the rest of the year.
What did *you* do for the first time this summer that took you out of your comfort zone?
