749 bank accounts. One business. How is that even possible? Thrasio, the aggregator to declare bankruptcy has reported the inner workings. Of all the details, this one stands out. With 200 brands, that's 3.7 bank accounts for each brand. That means every brand has: an offshore bank account a domestic bank account and 1.7 bank accounts just for fun Amazon businesses can hit crazy high revenues. But with all the complexity, it's death by a thousand cuts. I've seen nine figures of Amazon revenue not be as profitable as you first thought. Why did they need 749 bank accounts? Anyone with any insight? I'd love to be schooled in this. Aren't rollups supposed to streamline efficiencies?

For anyone still asking themselves why Amazon isn’t building its own lending business - here’s another clue where they are spending big $$. For Amazon - data is stronger than balance sheet. Banks are also investing in AI and data capabilities but they have less and less relevant data. Having the tools without the data is like playing with a rubber duck in an empty bath tub. There is a better option. #embeddedfinance Read below how I see Amazon and similar e-commerce giants working with banks in the near future https://lnkd.in/eCKf8mM8 #banking #data
One more step towards Amazon's embedded finance future. Amazon is a data runching machine, not a balance sheet building one. Why should it deploy capital in risky lending, when others are more than willing to take on the risks and are built for it? The next step for them is to develop the credit models themselves and even price it (because they have more data on their businesses than any bank has ever had on any business in the history of business) and simply auction it to the highest bidder. As in, I (amazon) have a business, that need, say $100k, for 6 months, and is on Amazon highest credit rating, looking for x% interest loan, who dear banks want it? Amazon will, of course, not be the only mega platform that uses data in this way, with full consent because why wouldnt the business owner consent. If you're a bank exec and you are not tasking your organisation (and core vendors) to prepare for this future, you are failing your shareholders and team. #embeddedfinance #banking #Amazon #FutureofFinance https://lnkd.in/eKt-4Ub9
