So, should you open that card? Pros: 👉Easier to qualify than other credit cards 👉Potential to help build credit 👉Usually discounts/ incentives at the issuing store Cons: 👉Most rewards are only at the issuing store 👉Higher than average APR 👉Most have low limits, which impacts your credit utilization ratio 👉Special financing features can come with a catch As always, the answer depends. If you’re a frequent shopper at that store, it might be worth it to you. If not, you might be better finding another card with better incentives.

The average interest rate for retail credit cards has reached a record high of 30.45%—well above the average rate for general-purpose credit cards, which is about 21%. The priciest cards now top out at a 36.99% interest rate, according to a survey from Bankrate. Among the cards in this range are those from Big Lots, Burlington, Good Sam, Michaels, and Petco. However, some retailers are still offering more reasonable rates, such as Costco at 20.49%, Bass Pro Shops at 21.12%, and IKEA at 21.99%. https://lnkd.in/gN3uaVfa I've done and seen similar work elsewhere on shopping habits - what you buy, how often, product pairs, shift from national brand to store brand, frequency of shopping at specific merchant codes etc. At the moment mostly correlation - the causality can be tricky of course. Particularly related to the delicate issues of "character". This type of work can open doors to the unbanked and underbanked if use with proper governance and controls.
