**Thought I would jump in on this hot trend** Here's my 2024 LinkedIn Rewind, by Coauthor.studio: A cup of coffee too full taught me more about credit unions in 2024 than any spreadsheet ever could. Just like that overflowing mug, many credit unions are spilling over with potential - but they need margin. Space to breathe. Room to strategically grow. This year at ASG Results, we didn't just help credit unions manage loans. We helped them create breathing room - financially and culturally. We expanded partnerships across the Midwest, delivering training programs that transformed how credit unions think about lending. Our approach? Less about transactions, more about relationships. Three posts that resonated most with our community: "Creating Margin in Our Lives" - Showing why space matters, not just in coffee cups but in business strategy https://lnkd.in/gZp8mnyr "Reflection on Delinquencies" - Revealing the real cost of lost opportunities ($4,500 per repossessed car!) https://lnkd.in/gTirWXGm "When Servant Leadership Shines" - Reminding us that true leadership is about service, not titles https://lnkd.in/gb9hcW2M Looking ahead to 2025: Credit unions need more than technology. They need partners who understand that every loan is about a human story, not just a number. Want to create some margin in your credit union's strategy? Let's connect and explore how we can help you breathe easier. #LinkedInRewind #2024Wrapped -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind! Go to coauthor.studio

Rich Jones gives us a solid reminder of service. Thanks Rich! Four points really stand out in this piece to me: 1. Holistic Engagement: Transforming interactions from transactional to relational, understanding members’ broader financial needs. 2. Building Trust: Creating personalized, consistent service that builds lasting relationships and trust with members. 3. Advisory Role: Acting as stewards who provide comprehensive financial guidance rather than just fulfilling immediate requests. 4. Enhanced Member Experience: Providing value-added services that go beyond basic offerings, leading to greater member satisfaction and loyalty. These fundamental points apply to all who are in the business world! Thanks for reminding us Rich Jones.

Serving Members is an Art of Stewardship Several years ago, I worked with Dale Turner, now CEO at TruStone Financial Credit Union. As the VP of Lending, he stood at the podium of an all-staff meeting and challenged the entire credit union to “think for the member, don’t just respond to the member.” Dale had the wisdom to know the difference between “order taking” and “serving.” Let me illustrate this difference using a metaphor. 💡 I am often asked, "What is a Credit Union and how is it different from a bank for my Business?" Well, allow me to answer one of my favorite questions: 🔹 Credit unions often provide more personalized service. We take the time to understand the unique needs of all businesses and can offer curated financial solutions. 🔹 Credit unions are member-owned and not-for-profit, because Credit Unions are not looking to turn a profit, this often means we have lower interest rates for the consumer. 🔹 Credit unions have a strong community focus, reinvesting profits back into the local area is very important. 🔹 Credit unions often provide educational resources and financial counseling, this helps small businesses manage important aspects of their business to remain successful. This is just a small look at how Credit Unions are community and business driven! If you would like to learn more about how a Credit Union could help you, drop me a message! #creditunion #community #smallbusiness

I heard a comment the other day that relate to some of my postings using the moniker #NoCreditUnionLeftBehind or #NoCULeftBehind. In a way the inference was "if all credit unions are important, then why are you primarily focusing on small credit unions?" What about the larger ones? There are numerous reasons why the focus on small credit unions is important but not enough room in this comment to go down that long path. BUT, every credit union started out small. If we think back to Louis Herring, she helped start over 500 credit unions in Ohio because communities needed a financial institution that assisted those of low to modest income means- factory workers, farmers, coal miners, households from Appalachia, etc. And yes, some credit unions have grown significantly large during their existence, some have chosen to stay small, and unfortunately a significant number of credit unions have vanished. Today there are some credit unions that have chosen a different business strategy other than to serve rural areas, truly isolated communities or extremely underrepresented populations. And that is okay, BUT credit union cooperatives were started to ensure that there was financial inclusion for all. In many of these areas, it is these smaller credit unions that are ones that are best suited to serve the unique needs of these smaller or unique communities. There are great stories of small and larger credit unions collaborating together to provide reciprocal services to ensure that all needs of a community can be served. I think a great representation of that is the BECU and Express Credit Union. From the PixelSpoke podcast Episode 97, "The Power of Small: Small and large credit unions both have a lot to offer one another. It’s so often assumed that large credit unions have more to teach or offer the movement, but in fact, relationships between small and large credit unions can be a two-way street. In the fascinating and unique relationship between Express and BECU, Express benefits from BECU’s “employee on loan” program, and BECU benefits by learning how to deliver in a more agile way, and by being able to refer members they can’t serve to another trusted local credit union. This is only my opinion, but if small credit unions disappear, the chances of the entire credit union system being taxed goes up significant. Let's remember that while, "no credit union left behind" is true for all credit unions, all credit unions started small. PixelSpoke BECU Express Credit Union CU Strategic Planning
