Growing up in the beautiful hills of Panauti, I thought I understood the essence of Nepal. But when I joined Community Homestay Network, my journey took me south to the Terai .My journey started in Chitwan and took me through Bardia, Bhada, Rana Tharu, Tharu Sonaha and the welcoming Tharu villages. It’s hard to put into words the impact the Terai has had on me.
The people, with their warmth and generosity, made me feel like family. The landscapes, with their raw, unspoiled beauty, seemed like a world untouched. And the wildlife, one horned rhinos, tigers, elephants, and rare bird species; adds to the Terai’s vibrancy, making every moment feel like a natural wonder. The food, the rich culture, the easy pace of life, it was all a reminder of Nepal’s incredible diversity.
Now, Lonely Planet has recognized the Terai as one of the top 10 regions to visit in 2025, and I am thrilled that the world is noticing the lesser explored Terai. There’s so much more to discover here, especially in the eastern Terai, and I myself can’t wait to explore it even further.
