[II] Transcrime @ #ASC2024 | What is the state of play against waste trafficking? We now move into the global trafficking arena, with Phillip Screen introducing our comparative study of the anatomy of #wastecrime investigations in different jurisdictions. We found stark differences in how these crimes - such as illegal dumping, trafficking and water pollution - are approached. Resource constraints, legal grey areas and a lack of international coordination emerged as critical barriers to protecting global environmental #sustainability and #publichealth from crime. Hence the need for standardised protocols, tools and advanced technologies (e.g. drones, aerial sensors) to strengthen the fight against these threats.
